I saw that..thanks....between both bikes...can't get enough input and communication to the players out there. Of course this site is the center of the universe on knowledge about these motors and the history of the bikes themselves.

My Dad and I have marveled at the accuracy of some issues neither one of us could recall.

Mr. Benton was kind enough to share two very important magazine articles (actually entire mags)...that quite honestly provided a "quick fix" on some must know info for our rebuilds. I'll return these once I glean the details that Cook Neilson so eloquently documented....and then there was the coverage of Bowling Green in there also (Cycle, Sep 74) ..our first TF outing...the "shot heard round the world" a very appropriate analogy.  Our Top Gas bike that TV rode, put a half second and 15 mph on the rest of the field...that class would be owned by RC Eng for the next two years and unfortunately kept a lot of riders at home until Terry switched over to Pro Stock.

We were all lucky to be there that day and witness a paradigm shift in the sport that, to this day, can trace its roots to that Father's Day in June of 74.

Hey JR.  I have been contacted by a member over at DRAGBIKE.COM   that say's he's pretty sure that he has a complete CERIANI front end stashed in his garage. He's gonna check and let me know ,so if your deal falls through we might have another one in the works.   ;)   :)

Please work this...my deal is quite pricey. ;) and I have a few days.

No problem.   ;)   I already asked him to drag the front end out and double check to make sure it's the right front end.  I also asked how much he want's for it.  Just waiting for his reply.   :)

Very true Robert...I have decided to use this thread as our "diary" of what is taking place and answer any historical questions I can...It's a blast from the past for me and something most people would not find interest in. Yes sir, I have found a home to discuss what has been held private for over 30yrs, and the participants could not be more noble.

This group represents the character my Dad was seeking to reach with his outrageous machines. Intellects of speed...the forward thinkers.

Nice site and that book looks like a must have for the restorer.

My bucket list (now this may be sacrilege to some) includes a copy of my Dad's Rickman framed, Cobra motored cafe bike that he would terrorize the hills of west LA with. He wore his race jacket with his name across the shoulders (before he could afford two jackets) and every hot bike on the street would give him a go. Could not stop at a light without this...almost guaranteed. One of two things would happen...he would either slice the light and leave them sitting or worse..sandbag the light and blow by them in 60 feet. I was riding home from work one night ,on the back, when this happened...two up and still blew by...very cool. Even the company Van drew stoplighters...I got a lot of tree practice that way while on permit no less. I  had my Dad in the passenger seat once and forgot he was there and cut a light that got the keys removed for a while...lol. The Van had Assassin painted on the front (in reverse...so you could read it in your rear view) and world's quickest Honda all over it...what was a 16 yr old gonna do with that!?

Thats just plain awsome!  My dad would do the same thing with his Cobra motored bike.  Said nothing around could match it.

Reading here about what it was like street-racing back in the day in in LA, allow me to re-tell a good story an old friend of mine, the late Jack O'Malley (founder of Orient Express) shared w/ me about street-racing in NYC during that same golden time in the early 70's.
Cross Bay Boulevard and Connecting Highways in Queens was the scene where serious down and dirty street racing was it. Run what you brung, and back it up w/ cash. When Jack was just starting Orient Express circa 1973, he built some sick motors and he whipped everybody w/ his CB750 and Z1 specials. At the end of the night and all bets were being paid-up, he'd hand everybody back their money and say "Instead of me taking your money tonight, bring the cash down to my shop tomorrow and I'll build you a FASTER motor than I just beat you with." And they ALL did just that, (and ALL their friends, too), and Orient Express went from a being a small speed shop in Freeport to became the East Coast's racing empire.
Russ Collins and Jack O'Malley no doubt met in some epic national drag races.

Jon, i have come to the conclusion that somehow you now live in this thread... ;D   Russ may have to charge you rent and put that towards the build... ;D :P

Living here, naw.   ::)  Living a dream of being envolved in such a historic motorcycle event.... HELL YES !   ;D ;D  8) 8) 8)   I'm just trying my best to help out where i can.   ;)   I so want to find that Ceriani front end and i have a real nice lead.  Just waiting for the guy to get back to me. I really hope it's not a bunch of bull $hit.   ::)   As for the rent, if i could afford it i would, but i figure i'm paying it forward  spending alot of time helping to find those elusive parts out there.   ;)  LOL !   ;D
