I think it's a Sun....I vaguely remember the conversation...the original was a mag...maybe a Morris (see pic below), but that wasn't on for long. I don't suppose I be breaking any rules by going with some polished stainless spokes.

Here is a treat...never been down the track...I think just back alley burn out...not very pretty and certainly not done...notice the "tear your leg off " clutch arrangement. Guy flew in from Germany after hearing it ran. This is the basis for my dimensions...he used a Browning box camera I think...the clarity is incredible at 2' X 3'. Had it scanned from color to Band W so I could pencil all over it. Chassis guy is loving it. Bet this pic has never been on line.

This is why we are building the "Winston" version....the mailbox tail My Dad and I.... vote no on that...think he was in a hurry to just sit on it when that was made....lol

I just looked at the front rim on my bike and it has a shoulder similar to the one on the color
picture of the triple
mine is a stock GL1000 wheel
Could that be the same just anodized gold?

just a thought

That incredible B/W picture taken by the German photographer with its beautiful wide range of greys and distinct sharpness I am guessing was taken w/ a very long exposure on a tripod and asa 50 size 4x5 negative film.

I couldn't resist giving it some 70's period color.

The GL Anniversary model hasd gold anodized rims, but I think non-shouldered.. the colour was more straw colored, not like in the pic.
Another manufactur of shouldered was Takasagi, not sur if they made them then.
In the early eighties? The Shop sold anodized ?Sun? maybe rims through ads in Hot Bike.. run by Rudy or Gary Pena I think...

Thanks guys...cool photo shop work...actually it was originally a color shot..large format box camera on tripod.

Weird thing is...he flew all the way in from Germany to take a picture of an unfinished drag bike sitting on the sidewalk in Gardena complete with the weeds and all. I watching this guy...I think because most of the shop thought he was a few loose. Notice it has some sharpie gearing calculations written on the engine plate.

3 months later we get this German magazine with this poster included...my Dad was not very happy with it and handed it to me....but I knew I had something unusual in my hand so I kept it folded up...just like it was delivered, until 20 yrs passed and then had it framed. I had to very carefully take it out of the frame and have it scanned at Kinko's...you would have thought it was the Dead Sea Scrolls with the handling instructions given the young lady behind the counter. There was 20 yr old guy watching this take place...his eyes were like saucers when I explained that it would be rebuilt and he was witnessing MC history.

I'll check in with my Dad on the rim choice...I thought there was only one mfr with that style lip...guess not.

RCjr.

Borrani looks close but I need a 19" ...well at least I'll have some choices. Never heard of Kimtab until today...

I ran Morris mags on my Jr. Pro Stocker in 81...they came off a RR bike of unknown origin but sure look a lot like this Kimtab. Judging by the price...I'm guessing they do not make these anymore...lol

You guys will make sure I do not venture off the true path...thanks.

At the time I was buying Borranis, 19" was de riguer. Couldn't find 18". Borrani 19" with the shoulder was fitted on the Dunstall CB750 street/cafe racer front and rear back in the day. I had a 19" I sold to Terry of Oz, I think.

Ought to be able to find one on ebay or such.

Forget all the old crap, this is a heavy bike that even doing demo passes will be reaching speeds where by you need to have faith in what you are running on.
They might not be the same make but you can still get 19 inch WM2 or WM3 in 40 hole flanged rims.
Get them anodised or painted, a set of good butted sainless spokes and you're good for plenty of safe running on rims that can't be distinguished from the origionals. (well not at 200mph. ;D ;D ;D)

http://www.central-wheel.co.uk/rims/morad_rim/morad_rim.html  I'm sure if I can find them in the UK, you'll find them State side. ;)

Ok...couple of things...Sam you are spot on with the "correctness issue", these will see 100+ on shut off passes.

The Cycle pic is in fact RC , Byron and Slim...the next year it was more Dave Brewer and myself as the relief driver and tire wiper, oil changer etc...I was 15 1/2 had a drivers permit and was driving the worlds first 7 second bike all over the country (talk about faith...what was my dad thinking?).

Dave Brewer meant the world to me (RIP) as my mentor of the race scene from road etiquette, skirt chasing and the Beach Boys..oh yeah, we were very cool and if you were a hottie in a small town you got a free RC halter top. I grew up fast in those summers. We hit everything that called itself a drag strip from Montreal to LA and put on a series of match races with TC that was not to rivaled..till the wreck of course. Hell we even got paid to make exhibition runs at IHRA events...Bristol was my favorite venue.

I have to get on line and get that copy of Cycle...lost mine in a move. Forgot how much detail was in that.

Pic of my reconstruction work bench...lot's of detail to cover and we want this to be right. The red book on the right are my dad's notes on all of his Nitro projects..starting with the triple all the way to the BattleStar. Awful lot of burnt piston discoveries and the jetting fixes that went with them.

Those front forks will be tough to find...hours on line nothing close with those trees...35mm plenty ...but those trees are odd especially the top..I thought we ran clip ons..but no.. and that makes that piece very special.

I have to ask...did it really get used as a coffee table?  ;D

I believe I remember a piece of glass was laid over it for a while and it sat it the middle of customer service just outside Dave Brewer's office for a while...but never really a coffee table.... like in we sat around it and used it for beverage containment. It was a constant reminder of what really, nearly killed my Dad and someone had the sense to just store it away...oiled up of course.

You should have seen it when I rescued it a few months ago. My Dad is not known for his nostalgic thinking.

My son and I built this work bench custom to fit the triple safely under it while we bring it back to life ...my feet will touch it's foot pegs but they do not rest on those valve covers.

The worlds first 7 second motorcycle deserves all I can throw at it...and it will be an amazing and faithful, running restoration.

Keep me informed gentlemen....and we will have some fun.

Pic requests are not a problem for this group...and I think my Dad must have this copy, so I won't need yours....maybe I can get him to sign yours.
