Glad those cranks checked out alright. No way for anyone to know the abuse they had previously taken or the exact condition they were left in at their last run. Now you can move ahead with more confidence.

I believe they were RC327 cams.On second thought they were probably a custom grind with less overlap then the 327. One of them was custom made because of the rear bank of cylinders being backwards so everything had to be flipped, Not sure if this was already mentioned. Glad the cranks checked out OK for the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe . Got to see the three engines apart in Mikes shop which really was a treat. He's done more work on them then anyone could even imagine. Russ Jr picked the right guy for the job!

This was posted on Facebook by Russ today.

Today I got word that the last big ticket piece to be repaired on our triple engine fueler, a crankshaft...is complete and on its way to Boston. I firmly believe, we will be assembling the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe this summer. Thanks to all the many freinds, family, sponsors, workmates etc..that have tolerated this lengthy journey. My brother David Collins and I will do this up right...of this you can all be certain.

2 of the stroked rod journals were out of round and the "new" oil feed holes were not placed in the correct location. The journals had to be ground, rewelded etc. Luckily it was straight.

I think improved is an understatement.  Mike has pretty much reinvented these engines. 
I’ve come to the conclusion that the original Triple was put together fairly quickly.  It was a big project done in a modest timeframe.  I’m sure Russ Sr. would have been the first to admit the Get-R-Done attitude often prevailed over the time consuming ultimate quality mindset with the Triple.

 The Sorcerer project arguably “benefitted” from the sobering results of Russ’ horrific crash on the Triple as Byron Hines took charge of building the Sorcerer with a more relaxed pace and determined to make that powerhouse as safe and reliable as possible.

I have a strong feeling that the new Triclops will FAR exceed the quality of construction standards of the original.  Mike and Russ Jr. wouldn’t have it any other way.😉

This has been as long and exciting drama with many episodes. This has been very entertaining to follow, the goal is still there, in the near future. I hope you will film the day when it will be started. It can be shown on Discovery channel as a historical event like the lunar landing :)
