Haven't seen On Any Sunday, can I still redeem myself?
« on: December 08, 2011, 11:41:03 AM »

I just received my cycle world mag and read an excellent article on the 40th anniversary (I was one when it hit theaters) of the film and realized, I still have not watched what looks to be a great movie. Does this make me any less of a motorcycle enthusiast?

Hulu  Hulu - On Any Sunday - Watch the full movie now.  It's awesome, I was 10 when it came out and me and my buddies went to see it over and over all summer long.  It's a great movie.

I would have been 10 also. I don't recall the first time I watched it but it's been quite a few times since.

Thanks for the link veloracermike, I hope to check it out this evening. Sounds like a lot of great memories for those of you who were able to see it when you were children.

I was 14 in 1971 when it came to the theaters in my town. Been in love with motorcycles ever since. Great movie and a must see for any motorcycle person even if its 40 years old. Ive watched it many, many times over 40 years and it still gives me a good feeling inside just like it did when I first saw it at 14. Malcom Smith was my hero and there wasn't anything he couldn't do on a motorcycle. Steve McQueen was a hell of a rider also. This movie and the CB750 IMO made motorcycling what it is today.

Haha Robert Redford.  A local place here in town sells vhs's for 25 cents and I bought the sting and a couple of other movies the other day.  It's nice to see my children enjoying the same movies I did when I was a kid.

My sister took me to see that when it came out...don't think she knew what she was taking me too!  I posted these pics in the "bikes and babes' thread yesterday.

From Little Fauss and Big Hallsey, Lauren Hutton with Redford

Linda Gaye Scott also from Little Faus and Big Halsy.  She was topless in this movie, I was about 10 years old at the time when I saw this in the theater..this was a big deal ;)

Maybe all it means is that you'd rather ride than watch someone else ride.

On Any Sunday Bruce Brown Steve McQueen

That's exactly my favourite part of the movie, that slow-mo scenes and thet 70's music....

I watched for the first time just three or four years ago. Have seen it at least once a year since then.

Ended up buying a DVDset at Amazon with the sequel. Forget about it, the first one is the one to see. Maybe the interviews with Bruce Brown and Malcom Smith are interesting.

I had never heard about Malcom Smith before I watches the movie. In the DVD set he is -obviously- 40 years older and that struck me, because I haven't seen McQueen get old for obvious reasons. I mean, haven't seen anybody in the movie getting old, and seeing Malcom Smith was like if he had grown 40 years in the blink of an eye! Actually, he relates the anecdote of a young boy that, after watching the movie, approached him and told him something in the line of: you must be Malcom Smith' grandfather; is he around here?

I like the movie so much that I watched "the endless summer" too. I didn't like it that much, maybe just because I'm not into surfing.

Seen Dust to Glory too. It's OK, but the motorcycle action is minimal. I'm not much into car racing.

On Any Sunday Bruce Brown Steve McQueen[/url]

Again Dad comes into this equaision.  We went to HALLET for what I think for sure was Camel GT in the '70's.  It rained like heck and was a mud pit around the track.

Now I remember hallet for CMRA races, push starting friends on to the track  and hot as heck summer heat, jockeying to put the vans in the shade with 110f, or waiting for late arrival lunch break to slip in for free.

Makes me wonder about those kids crashing their 50's in front of us trying to make a jump.  They all seem to wear helmets and knee pads now and have other things to do than watch Dane Wesby haul arse.
