CR750 tank for CB750 k4
« on: December 06, 2011, 07:49:06 PM »
Dear all,

Hope you're well. I'm brand new to the forum and have some questions. I'm thinking about buying a beat up K4. I want to cafe it, the center piece would be CR gas tank, but I'm damned if I can't find one.

Does anyone know a place to get an CR750 alloy conversion tank for a CB750 k4? I know I need to yank the airbox and battery, I was planning on running pod filters and relocating the battery under the tail cowl anyhow...

Also, what diameter is the part of the frame where the triple tree attaches? can I throw a more recent front end on a CB?

Thanks kindly!

Andrew

Thanks for the link!

My god, the tank will cost more than the bike...  :-\

Any place out there a bit cheaper? Some body produce something close to but not an exact replica?

They are known for doing "their" own work rather then shipping it to someone else.

You can get a more accurately made aluminum CR750 tank with the proper fuel filler from Bartel's in Northern Ireland, or from The Tank Shop in Scotland. The CR750 tank is a standard item for European aluminum benders. However, the price is in the same neighborhood as the ROC City stylized version. RR

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think you're gonna fond a cheap way out of this.  Especially going alloy.

Plus 100 Jags. I am coming around to your advice you gave on the other site. A bike is worth as much as you want to pay for it. These bikes continue to increase in value. So my thought is put a little more into it and you will get more out of it. Cutting corners only pays off for the short run.

Agreed. I think I'm going to turn a one year project into a two year project. I'll take a rubber mallet to the original tank, bang out some knee cut-outs for now. Just have to save my pennies over the next 12 months for the CR tank. Thanks guys for all the advice.

Stev-0. Your first post should ask what bike is the best to cafe out. Mention you are new the the "cafe" scene and are on a very limited budget and dont care about performance, safety or quality work. All you want to know is where to buy clubmans and where to buy a seat! They will welcome you with open arms!

Dear all,

I'm not too worried about the tear down cost. The engine has 4k on it. The electronics are solid. The carbs will need all the work. A good cleaning, jetting and sync. So I guess that's my real first question. Who has the cheapest jet set?

why are you rejetting? if it has stock pipes and airbox should be a simple/thorough clean up. If you are planning to put cheap pod filters on it, just search the forum here. there are lots of heated discussions on the matter as well as jetting suggestions. As far as where to get them cheap, I will have to let someone else give you that info, as I have never ordered any.

Wait till you see how much the total restoration will cost.
What is wrong with the stock front end? Other front ends will fit that headstock.
But remember the frame is not that thick. But it is 9 times stronger than those modern sport bike aluminum frames.
I was a mechanic for Honda when those bikes first were introduced. They were fine.
Now the tires for motorcycles are even better.
Just make sure to rebuild the front forks and brakes.
The new brake pads are better also.

the research I saw showed that it was 7 times stronger, not 9.
