Broken Case Bolt - Necessary to repair?
« on: December 11, 2011, 08:26:22 PM »
I broke a case bolt  :-[ :-\

Can the engine do without the single bolt holding thing together?
Repairing at this stage would be easier than after putting on barrels, head etc but would also involve a significant amount of work...

Any suggestions as to the best way forward?

The raised bolt is broken where thread begins (thread still being in bottom of case).

Bolt removed,  (thread still being in bottom of case).

It looks like you are into a good restoration and doing a good job and like you said it would be  a lot easier now without jugs on to fix it and in my opinion honda nor any other motorcycle manufacturer ever put a bolt on a machine they made that was not necessary so fix it all you need is the right size bit and an easy out
when you own a motorcycle the wife does not have to find you handy she just has to find you

Thanks for preventing my laziness..  :o

It took a couple of hours but was easier than expected.
Once the broken bolt thread was filed flat I drilled down the center and used a bolt extractor...
