CB400F Models.
« on: December 12, 2011, 05:25:55 AM »
My bike's tag says it's a '76, but it had high bars and red side covers. Shouldn't it have low bars and black side covers?

that would mean it is a 77 so the bars are correct.  Do you also have the forward mounted footpegs?...Larry

Side covers should also match tank on the 77 you want to post some pics Ernest and the build date of the tag?

I'll post a pic as soon as it stops raining and I can take the cover off.  The title says its a 1976 as does the tag on the headstock.

You'll need to look at the month too as the last few months of the year could be the new years stock rolling out.
I have no idea of the exact dates this would have been done we can just look at the date and compare the model years to yours.
and the 77 serial seems to start 21

It actually says 1976 model on the tag.  I have 1 1/2 CB400Fs, this one and a 1977 parts bike that came with low bars and a yellow tank with stripes.

Did they both come from the same PO?

The tag.

The bars, high off the '76 and low off the '77.

The high bars are different with this raised part in the middle.

No, I bought the '76 with a bad cam chain rattle and found out the adjuster bolt was broken off in the case.  I bough the '77 later because it had good engine case.

I'm collecting parts to restore the CT-70, its a runner.
