I'm in for one if its fully functional... Been looking for one just like it and I have more money than time. (Read"Lazy") LOL...must have a tank. Would like to see more details on it..like where the filler is and where the hoses route and how it handles after a long ride. etc.

Nice work, you should find a jobber shop to fab a run of 20, they'd sell for sure.

Tank looks great! Too late now, but earlier you asked how much oil the original tank holds. I'm in the process of building a tank also so I measured one of my spares. Not counting air space, the tank off a '76F ( i assume it would work for any SOHC 750) holds 54 oz of oil to read full on the dipstick. FWIW
The darn fool didn't know it couldn't be done...so he went ahead and did it anyway.

Mind if I steal your design?

Also any chance of a few more pics of the mounting set up?

No plans to make more. I don't have right tools to do it more efficient at this moment
Took me some time to make it

My bike '76

Beautiful tank! Great job.
Make sure to pressure test it because if it has a leak and it has oil in it then you will not be able to weld it safely.

Re: Can i plug this?
« Reply #37 on: September 23, 2012, 10:22:32 AM »
VTEC, you can plug the rear crankcase fitting, but only if your custom oil tank has a means to vent. The oil tank cutaway pictured in your post does not show a vented design, this means that excess oil can only be relieved from the oil tank overflow to the rear crankcase fitting.

The crankcase is designed to flow from the rear crankcase oil fitting then up to the valve cover which vents vapors and blow-by to the atmosphere. This is easily checked by blowing air into the rear crankcase fitting.

Excellent photo schematic Hinomaru!

This what I'm going after

And here's  my progress

Would this fit with a stock Airbox?

Probably wouldn't fit with the stock box as constructed as it sits between the (side) frame rails.  Looks like part of it extends forward just a bit -  it would be very close though.   It could easily be made to mount another inch back and easily keep its beauty.

Now for the real question.   Who's going to start making these or am I going to have to start asking around ?  VTEC - I bet you could sell 10 of these here without much trouble.

I can draw it up and check around to see if I can find someone that could make them at a reasonable rate.   What would you guys expect to pay for something like this ?

Before my semesters over I'm going to try to make one using fittings from an old secondary tank I have. Not sure about my attachment method or it being universal but it isn't too bad I might be able to pattern out a few and weld em up. I second the how much would people be willing to pay question.

if someone's going to design these for production, i'd suggest recreating it as a 2-pc clamshell which can be cast and then welded together using a single seam.  i bet frankenstuff could blast one out on the 3D printer and molds could be made for aluminum casting.

Still no ones thrown out a price that theyd pay for one of these...

to solve my issue of a stock air box could it be mounted on the other side of the V, the tire side?

Beautiful. Exactly what I'm going for. Probably allot to ask, but do you by any chance have drawings/sketches (placement of fittings, tabs and so on)? I could draw it up in SolidWorks. We could make it an open source project :)

to be blunt, before anyone considers buying one, they'll probably want you to display a finished product that has been road-tested.

your concept is awesome, but it has not been proven to be functional.
