CL175 build
« on: December 13, 2011, 11:58:28 PM »
I finished my 1st bike build a few months ago, a CB650 cafe.   Here is a link to that bike build....

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=95751.0

I just bought a CL175 for my gf's 1st bike so she has something to ride with me.    I paid $125 for it with a nice bike stand.  It kicks over but doesnt run and doesnt have a title but thats not really an issue here in WA.

Here are some pics of it from when we brought it home....

Here are the pipes after we cleaned them up.  Probably worth $125 themselves...

Here is the inspiration behind the build.   She wants to be able to ride her daughter so we are going with a banana style seat.

She wants to go with an industrial look overall with no painted parts for the most part, and then a crazy metal flake paint job on the tank.   Here is what she wants the tank to look like when we are done...

next up will be to clean and paint the motor.

Need to order her a set of drag bars and going to get these tires.  https://www.denniskirk.com/_.p543831.prd

I really like the look of these tires and you cant beat the price.  Anyone have any experience with them?

ffjMoore,

I have followed a few of your other builds and am a big fan.   I look forward to seeing how yours turns out.

How about a 175 bike build-off?  Forum members can vote and loser is voted off the forum?  OK, lets not go that far as I would be a big underdog!

Well so far you are miles ahead of me. Im just going  to try and get this one on the road first. You know shake out all the bugs. Then ill do the whole tear down, customize and paint. If my wife lets me do that to this one.

I have only had the bike a little over a week.  I imagine it will take a few more months before it is done though.  So far everything that I have done has been free.  Now is when the initial costs will come in so things will slow down.   I expect that everything will get done for under $1k if I can get the tank painted myself.

We will soon see!

Anyone know how a cb350 tank would fit on a cl175?  I like the 350 tank that already has the knee dents in it.

My fenders, tank, and headlight are all in really good shape.  I was thinking about selling them as a set on fleabay.  If I could get $200 out of them then I would be ahead in the $$ department on this bike!

Why not sell that whole set on the Hondatwins.net forum ? someone on there would give you your price, they DO look to be in very nice condition.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.

ran into my 1st setback today.

The kick start arm was extremely easy to kick over, it had me worried but wasnt really sure how much it should take to kick it over.  I tore into it tonight and found out that my drive gear on the kick start shaft as well as my 1st gear drive gear are ground down.

Anyone know of a good place to get one?
