Clutch (and other) cables at odd angles
« on: December 17, 2011, 11:29:54 AM »
Maybe I'm just terrible at the search feature, but I'm unsure of how to handle this. Don't have any pictures either unfortunately, but easy to imagine in your head.

With the addition of superbike bars and a cheapie clutch mount from dime city cycles, which is made to be used with clubman bars, my clutch cable is at a severely odd angle. On the other side, the brake lines and throttle are somewhat odd, but not AS bad. Still need to be fixed. The front brakes apply when I turn the bars near full-lock, so I'm guessing that its at a severe enough angle to be causing that...

What solutions are there out there? New cables that aren't as stiff? Any help is appreciated.

Maybe you've already done this....but try rerouting the cable so that the bend is not so severe near the handle assembly.  Maybe bring the cable up behind the headlight bucket further away from the clutch handle so that you get a straighter run into the handle.

Are you using the stock cables?  If so they're likely too long for those bars.
Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

Yep, using stock cables, and they're definitely too long. I'll definitely try rerouting the cables once I get the engine back in the frame. If that doesn't work, then what, buy shorter cables? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to replace the old ones any ways. Any suggestions on cables to buy? Could a sharp angle in the brake line cause the brakes to apply at full lock, or is that something else causing that?
