Has anyone tried off brand emulators(not RT) in CB400F ?

I'm doing a little research before I commit myself to a course of action on my CB400F.The stock forks are what I'm going with(33mm)and I have a set of fork springs in mind.Has anyone yet tried adapting a pair of off-brand cartridge emulators to the Honda CB400F 33mm forks ? or how about a pair from the CB550 forks(35mm) ??
I love RACETECH but I'm a bit short on cash at this point;I also have experience setting up a later mid 80's VFR w/ RT cartridge emulators and I love that supple ride !

Does anyone have the outer dimensions of the emulators from the CB550 (35mm) front forks ?
