K0 CL350, whaddaya know?
« on: January 16, 2012, 11:34:41 AM »
Hey guys, my buddy and I just picked up a '68 CL350, super clean, runs great.  Needs a chain adjustment and a minor adjustment on the rear brake and she's good to go!  I've read a little about the cam chain tensioner recall, you guys know anything else that could pose a threat to the ole girl?  Looks like my pics are too large to post, even though they're off my phone?  I'll try to find another way...

AFAIK, the tensioner recall was for the 360, not the 350's.  Never heard of a recall on the 350s.

The only thing that goes wrong with a 350 is owner neglect/abuse!

Fix the things generically associated with 40+ years old (tires, hoses, etc) and you should be pretty much trouble-free!

HA! You know, now that I think about it you're right, it was the 360's, not the 350's.  Guess I'll be on my merry way, worry free!

Higher redline on the early ones.
Check carb diaphrams for cracks..if shifter has linkage (not sure on theCL), you may want to change it, they get sloopy.
Cant see the pics, what color is it?? is it 2-tone.. I like the wing logo...

Yeah, dunno what happened to the pics but I'll try to get them reloaded.  The paint LOOKS like it may have once been red, but has faded to orange.  Strange thing is that the paint is in really good condition.  Did Honda ever offer anything in orange in the early years?  It also has knee pads in the tank, so I'm thinking it may have been off of a different model, maybe a CL450?

Anyways, the clock says under 6000 miles, but I'm not sure how much I trust it because the original clocks should have been solid mounted and these are rubber mount, like the later style.  They also read innaccurately, i.e. I was riding her home at a pretty quick clip, probably 40-50, the speedo read upwards of 75 and the tach was bouncing around all over the place near redline.  I was clearly nowhere near redline.  Wrong gear ratio maybe? Not sure, it's a pretty small gripe.

I've had it out a few times now and she runs really well, with the exception of a low idle.  Keeps wanting to die on me if I don't keep blipping the throttle.  Also have to keep the choke on just a hair to keep the mixture in the "sweet spot."  Needs a little tune, but I'll tell you, she runs pretty darned well.

The guys we bought it from claimed to have picked it up from the PO in boxes, poor guy bought about as much as we paid for the whole bike in parts and just couldn't get it back together.  So these guys scooped it up on the cheap, put her together, and here we are!  They also had a K3 or K4 CB750 with a sidecar, a nice looking cafe job done on another 750, a couple Triumphs, another CL350, a bad little old Ducati single, and many, many more.  They also told me everything's for sale except the sidecar, so if anybody in Dallas is in the market, shoot me a PM and I'll get you their info. Good couple of guys.
