Honda valve floats in a Kaw?
« on: October 19, 2011, 07:09:01 AM »
Got a spare set of 750 valve floats, thinking of putting them in a '77 Kaw 650.  Anybody know how interchangeable the valve floats are?  The old Kaw valves were a bit trashed, had widely varying amounts of "springiness".  Anybody have experience with this?

Floats (and most carb parts) are not made for a specific motorcycle brand. Look up the floats at a web site like Sudco.

What year was the 750?

I know that the same float needles are used on many different brands and sizes of motorcycles. Here is a list.
All of these brands and bikes use the same float needles. Same as the Honda VF1000R/F

Nice, thanks.

I think as long as the float height measurements are the same, I'll give it a shot and eventually try to kick it over.

you know you can clean up the brass tang on the float and reinforce it with a little solder but if the plastic float is loose on the tang then you will have to replace it although epoxy will work for a little while

Haha, no.  This is the project we bought together, that got us together, nevermind the fact it doesn't run yet.

The old carbs had a giant hole punched in the #2 carb, right through the pilot jet intake in the main carb.  That would explain alot.  But....

My neighbor gave me a spare set of 650 carbs or it.  I don't know what it is about my neighborhood, but I always seem to find help and salvation.  Could have something to do with the fact I'm storing all their bikes in my garage for free.  Should be good to go in spring, I think.
