I've been working a couple of hundred miles from home all week and I was going to drop in to see Brian today on my way home, but instead I had to go straight home and bury my poor old dog Sally. She collapsed this morning and the vet said she was just too old and too knackered to save, so he had to put her down.

She was a happy dog and never complained about anything, even though she must have been in a lot of pain in the end. I was given her as a pup when I was 35, and I turn 52 next month, so she was a big part of my life. I felt bad not ringing Brian to say I wouldn't be dropping by today, but I didn't feel much like talking. I'm working away from home again all next week so I'll drop in and see him tomorrow or Sunday. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

By the by Terry, my two year old is called Sally, we think a lot of her too.

Terry I'm sorry you've lost Sally.
Don't worry to much about me, I'll see ya when I see ya.
Toby our pub dog is pushing 14 and I don't want to be stuck down here if we lose him.
I get a bit melancholy about it sometimes.
And the last thing the staff here would want is two fifty year old blokes balling over a couple of old dogs.

Cheers,
Brian :'(

Terry told me of this news on the phone last night - keep ya chin up mate, remember the good times with her and know that she was loved and had a great dog's life. She was a real good looker eh. Most of us are real softcocks when it comes to animals, I know I've shed more tears over them than humans. I like to think that those of us that care about them are good people.

Hey Brian.....go you good thing! 8)

Wow, what a roller coaster of emotions.
I was very excited to see Sam's post regarding Brain getting his legs back under him.

Keep up the good work Brian.  You're healing pretty well, and that's always good news.  You'll be out of there and back on the track in no time.  Keep fighting the good fight.

Terry, I'm very saddened by the news of your pup Sally's passing.  Losing a pet is never easy as they are members of the family.  I'm sure she had a great life with you, as she was loved.  Remember all the good fun.  My condolences for your loss.

OK guys, things seem to be tailing off now and all the funds I had collected have now been forwarded to Terry in Australia. If anyone still wants to donate, please send it by Paypal to Terry, PM him for details @ http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=profile;u=25  Terry, please let me know of anything you get so we can add it to the grand total and inform Brian of the GIVER. You've been great guys, I'm sure there will be a place reserved for you up stairs. 8)

There are still a few loose ends to tie up in the form of auctions and a couple of donations by cheque where people didn't have Paypal and sent them via Billy in the US. These will be sorted soon and I will contact the people in question with thanks.

Regards Sam ;)

Well I've given up on trying to email a pic I took with my phone yesterday so I can put it up here, but anyway, I dropped in and visited Brian yesterday at the Royal Talbot Hospital.

I hadn't seen Brian since Phillip Island a couple of weeks ago, I felt bad because I try to get over to see him once a week, but what with dead dogs, dead Triumph's and my dead-end job, time got away from me. No matter, it gave me more to tell Brian about, and as always, it was great to chat to him.

I was a little surprised that he wasn't in his room, but rather, he was in the rec room reading a bike mag and drinking a cup of coffee that he made for himself. Yep, that's right, he can dress himself, wash himself and even make some drinks etc now.

And he looks so bloody fit, his physio is really working him hard, and he's dropped around 80 pounds! No BS, I'm jealous of how fit he's become, I'm seriously thinking about faking a serious back injury just so I can go in and get fit and lose all that weight!

I had the pleasure of presenting Brian and Ev with another 1500 Aussie bucks on behalf of you guys. So far I've passed on 3000 Aussie bucks, (3231.85 USD, 2039.74GBP, 2457.10 EURO or 14,046.75 ARS, 'cos it sounds rude......) which is a fantastic result, and there's still a little more coming in from charity auctions and Sam's prints sales. Brian and Ev were ecstatic, and once again asked me to thank everyone here for your generosity. They really are just totally overwhelmed by the empathy and compassion that everyone here has shown and the efforts that Sam has gone to, to help someone that most of us hadn't met in person, before Brian's horrific crash.

But the best news of all, is that Brian can now stand! Yep, he needs a little help, and he's got a lot of nerve damage which is making things difficult, but he's really cracking on, it really is fantastic! You know, I've had a crappy couple of weeks and it got to me a tad, but after sitting with Brian, and seeing how much he's improved in only 2 weeks, I couldn't help but feel really good as I walked back to my car, even the rain that was thundering down couldn't take the smile off my face.

From my time in the Army I know that people are capable of performing incredible feats if their morale is high, and I firmly believe that the efforts of everyone here has helped Brian achieve a remarkable recovery so far. Sorry I can't post the pic, but I'll keep working on it. Thanks again everyone, you guys have done a great thing. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks for the update Terry.
Hearing about the positive progression of Brian's recovery and knowing that we've all had some form of input towards this in the background one way or another, makes everything that we do worthwhile.
All of the good stuff rubs both ways and we wouldn't have it any other way.  8)
Good onya mate.

We are making plans to come to Oz in 2013 with the British Lions to give you lot a good shoeing again (cant remember when we have ever done it but i thought it sounded good),  We are hoping to drive down from Sydney to Melbourne for the second Test Match, ive done the drive 3 or 4 times now and am hoping to look up Brian and have a few beers with him. Also like to meet you Terry and like wise have a few beers. We are also going up to Brisvegas for the first test so will look out for any other SOHC boys to have a beer and a yarn or to. Dont matter who wins the Rugby as long as we all have a great time...... We will be based in Sydney, Mona Vale.
