the latest Brian (bear) news.
« on: December 18, 2011, 10:56:23 AM »
I've just heard that Ausie member Brian (bear) is in hospital after a real bad accident in the Tassi championship sidecar race. Paul his passenger came out of it ok.
I'll try to report more as I find out.

Sam. :(

Terry in Australia is on the case.

G'Day Sammy, how are you mate? Geez that's no good, Brian's a nice bloke, I've had a few email "chat's" with him along the way, so I'm sad to hear (see?) that he's been injured. I don't live far from Heidelberg so I'm happy to go visit him, I'm guessing that he's in the Austin Hospital, do you know what his surname is so I can give them a call and find out what ward he's in etc? Cheers, Terry.

Hi Tel, are you anywhere near to Heidelberg ?

Brian (bear) the sidecar racer is in Austin Hospital in a bad way after crashing the outfit in Tassie Classic.
Would be good if you could find time to see what you can find out and report back.

Cheers Sam.

I Knew I could rely on you Tel, his name is Brian Williams, He's about 65ish.
I started a thread in the race forum so if you can get any news on his recovery status, could you post it there, cheers mate.

G'Day Guys, I called the Austin Hospital a moment ago. They couldn't tell me the extent of his injuries or his present condition, but Brian is awake, but drowsy, so I guess that's a good sign. I'll drive over there later this afternoon. He can have visitors with his family's permission, so I might have to present myself as his "cousin Terry". Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I can set up a fund if anyone would like to donate, looks like Brian is going to need all the help he can get.
Please help if you can no matter how small the amount, it will all help.
PLEASE PM ME FOR MY PAYPAL DETAILS.
For anyone scared of clicking on links, here is the story from a local news paper copied and pasted.

LEETON classic motorcycle racer Brian Williams is continuing his recovery after a serious accident at the Tasmanian Historic Motorcycle Championships last month.
Williams and sidecar swinger Paul Newman were involved in an accident at the Baskerville Raceway track on November 26 during practice.

The pair had come wide out of the corner and corrected, but touched a bumper meant for truck racing and flipped the bike. Newman was thrown clear and escaped with a shoulder injury, but Williams took the brunt of the impact.

He was revived once at the track and twice at hospital in Tasmania, before being stabilised and sent to Austin Hospital in Melbourne.

A fund-raiser for Williams will be held tomorrow afternoon at Yanco Hotel.

The event will include continuous raffles with prizes ranging from cash vouchers, jewellery and accessories, to football and motor racing paraphernalia.

Williams' wife Evelyn earlier this week updated fund-raiser organisers of her husband's condition.

She said his list of injuries included five broken vertebrae, which had been fused with rods in a seven-hour surgery, all ribs broken on one side of his body, a punctured lung, and a broken collarbone, nose and cheekbone.

Williams is partly conscious and on morphine and sedatives, with a tracheotomy to help ease the stress on his throat.

He comes off the ventilator for periods during the day and is able to breath on his own. He can talk and brain scans are all clear of damage.

When he is ready, Williams will be transferred to a ward and then onto rehabilitation

Mrs Williams said doctors believe he may be confined to a wheelchair due to the damage sustained to his vertebrae, but that won't be known for some time.

The Brian Williams fund-raiser will be held at Yanco Hotel tomorrow from noon to 4pm. For more information contact Karen Reynolds on 0429 491 277.

If you designate the money as a gift and use you bank account or debit card there are no fees for sender or receiver.  If you use a credit card then paypal will want their pound of flesh from someone and they will give the sender the option to accept/pay the fee rather than it be passed to the receiver.

Brians next big love was fishing, but somehow, I don't think he got the same kick out of it.
We know it's dangerous, we know the odds, we just have to try to limit the risk.
