errr. I do my voting according to what I would want to ride. "BattleScarred" is just calling my name. The engine details, the red cooler line, that blue headlight and the bar position...the way the bike is a pretty radical custom but wasnt bastardized with a frame loop or cheap aftermarket seat. Pretty sure he has the "Tintop" anti-pod on there as well. Great job Terry and be sure to let the boy know that his painting skills are getting the old man recognized!

I recently joined the forum after a SOHC/4 member from Pennsylvania stopped by with some handlebars. He said the members are helpful & friendly - couldn't agree more.

Being nominated for bike of the month was a pleasant surprise, never expected it. Thanks!

The 75' CB750K5 was bought from a friend many years ago and sat in the back of the barn collecting dust and being neglected (too much work and other projects...). The front wheel, engine & frame were still one piece, but pretty much everything else was in boxes. After I retired about 2 1/2 years ago it was time to pull it out and see what I really had. Cafe builds are very popular and pretty much everything I own has been modified in one way or another. The thought of building a stock bike wasn't really an option until I went to Carlisle, PA where I saw a 74' 750 that I drooled over. It was bone stock and after talking with the owner; I knew what I wanted.

Since i haven't been with the forum long; not sure what's expected, so I'll post some pics of the build to give you more information. I'd also appreciate your comments & suggestions to correct any errors on the restoration.

Thanks in advance   -Ray

Wiring was "okay", a couple of connectors were held together with nylon ties. I was fortunate to find a new harness.

That K5 looks fantastic Ray, and it's great to see another classic CB750 brought back to life.

I love original bikes as much as I do "Hotrods", and if my bike was an almost complete bike I'd have probably restored it too, but it started as a bare frame with no swingarm that a guy gave me, that had been shoved under his house.

A friend of mine rang me from a swap meet to say he'd found a complete K6 engine for 100 bucks, so I bought that, and realising that I had pretty much all of the bits laying around my garage from my very expensive EBay habit, I decided to build a "Rat bike", which i completed over a couple of weekends.

While great fun to ride, the stock engine was a little underwhelming, so I did a full rebuild, with RC rods and Arias 836cc pistons, APE Studs, Mike Rieck stage 3 head, Megacycle 125/75 cam, etc etc.

The difference was awesome, I've no idea what the RWHP is, but I saw 120 MPH in 3rd gear @ 1100 RPM. (I didn't intend to rev it that hard, but we both survived, and I've done it a few times now) I decided to spruce it up a bit more, so it evolved into this:

Great fun, but trying to hang on at that speed with 2" over front forks, lowered rear and pullback 'bars was a scary experience, so I decided to go the other way, and stripped it right back to the bare frame, painted the frame with a nice glossy black Epoxy. My son Tim did the "Rainbow" paint job with some leftover candy paint I gave him, and I bought some rearsets and Laverda Jota 'bars, to make high speed riding a bit more comfortable.

All in all, it's been a great experience, and while I've built a couple of other bikes in recent years, this one is kind of special to me:

So, what does the future hold for this old beast? Well more power would always be nice, so I'm slowly working my way towards putting together my RC1060cc engine, with APE crank, undercut gears, Mikuni 33mm smoothbore carbs etc. Lots of work (and money, sadly) to go, but this bike will continue to evolve, and I'm really enjoying the ride. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey Ray,

Love what you did with your K5. Did the same to my K4 a few years ago. When I had mine apart, I went the extra step and polished all the aluminum (hubs, valve covers, fork lowers, etc.)  It you get a chance, it really adds to the appearance of the bike. Here's a link to mine just for reference.

I hope you will take a bunch of photos of your ride while you have it on display at the IMS Cycle World in Novi, Mi next month. I am partial to Stock stuff these days. In the process of doing the 83 VF1100C Magna back to stock right now.

These are three beauties.  Some great looking motors.  I voted for the bike that I thought I could get on and ride all day, for a couple of days, without the slightest fear of it breaking down.  Like getting into my car for heavens sake.  No. 1 does that for me.

Yes, done.   ;)    That was easy.  I really do appreciate a stock restoration, but as Retro Rocket knows i can't leave anything stock.   :o   That paint job, side covers, wheels, and engine mods have my vote all the way to the bank !   ;D    The old " BITZER " bike looks fantastic !    8) 8) 8) 8)
