BSA A10- A few questions

I've got a frame and wheels for an old BSA. I searched on the VIN and came up with it being a '62 BSA A10, which is (I think) a 650cc.

I was wondering what that means. I don't know the difference between "pre-unit" and not, what is this one? Is this a fairly common model or not? Is this a desireable bike? How hard/expensive would it be to get an engine and build it into a whole bike? I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do with it.

Unit and pre-Unit refers to whether the transmission is in the case that holds the motor(Unit) or if the motor and tranny are seperate of one another(Pre-Unit)

Part are getting harder to find for the old BSA's.......but, i'd keep it.

62 is non-unit construction, with swing arm frame. The Older plunger framed model had a semi-unit where the gearbox is bolted rigidly to crankcase and an option of duplex (maybe triplex?) primary chain. Full unit construction has transmission cast into place with crankcase. I have a couple of 1952 A10's.
 HD started using similar design a couple of years ago on twin cam. Its necessary with multi row chains as they dont like being run out of line. I think its why the 750 looks like it was originally designed for triplex but uses two simlpex chains, the torque could twist shaft slightly out of line and you ended up with a single chain transmitting all the power, until it broke (side plates pop off)

My friend has a 650 Beeza he can get parts easier than me my for my Honda, just don’t buy the crap that’s made in India, there’s still plenty of resources over here in the UK he uses a place that has a name with Dragonfly in it but I don't know the WWW, search the name with BSA you’ll probably find it.

There is a place in Aberystwyth (Wales) that used to specialise in BSA650, but I forget name at present. There were originally based in Penarth (South Wales) lost link when I had to reformat hard drive.

If it helps, the early A10 was called the Flash or Golden Flash.
It was followed by the Road rocket, Super Road Rocket and the Rocket Gold Star.
After these models came the unit construction motors (A65 series)

My 52 A10 GOLDEN FLASH was originally 'Polychromatic Silver Beige' whatever that means??? ::) (doesn't explain anything about paint colour to me)
