Before I got lucky with my dad cleaning out his Garage...I'd like to share some of my rides over the years...none of which qualifies me for a TF ride...It's all about cubic dollars but these have been fun.
Never was much of a bracket racer...always went to the track just to run my personal best on what ever I was riding.
My dad took me aside one night at OCIR (back in 74) and told me how it was going to be:
He said; RC builds engines to set records...you come out here and run as fast as you can, when the shoe polish comes around, you give them your quickest pass of the day minus the track / weather and run your hardest. If you break out you celebrate..after all, you just beat your best pass. Once in a while you'll end up with the trophy and it won't be from looking over your shoulder.
That view of the drag strip has always stuck with me.
I have been racing an 1/8 mile, Barona, in San Diego just minutes from my home and Lee's Cycle builds the bikes to prove out there engine building prowess...I buy the parts, they build the bike as my sponsor and I just ride.
Barona's first street ridden bike in the 5's , my beach cruising turbo Busa, Jan 2007
Barona's quickest and fastest all motor street tire bike, GSXR1K , The "Assassin" a 40th year tribute to the 1971 CB750 based dragbike my Dad campaigned with great success.
And going back to 1991 - 94 my Top Gas ride that Randy Nelson (MDR) built.. My first 7 second ride and NHRA Wally winner. Nitrous Express also sponsored this bike and boy did we have fun with the "squeeze".
Ancient history.... My 1980 KZ650 Jr. Pro Stocker sponsored by Cycle Service out of San Pedro CA. That girl on the bike was my pregnant wife and I took a long break from racing to start that family. I built this with help in my garage with an RC eng. 717cc kit and it was pretty competitive given the rules allowed for 760cc ..always a top 4 qualifier...
Now it's mostly Honda as can be seen in the Sorcerer thread herein. Pulled the valve cover off the front motor of the Sorcerer today...thing didn't need much cam...RC315 grind right off the shelf.
