Hello everyone,
Let me start by saying it's a really CRAPPY time to not have a running bike in Phoenix AZ. The weather is beeeeautiful right now.
I am patiently waiting for my '76 750F parts to come home from the local machine shop, and I wanted to ask the experts what you think about using gasket sealer when putting the cylinder/head back together
I bought a complete set of valves from cycle x, and in the box was a letter explaining the importance of using a good sealer like hondabond etc.. I have replaced the head gasket once before, and had no leaks using just a light coat of oil on the gasket. Should I use a sealer just to be safe?
Do NOT use gasket sealer on the cylinder head gasket!
When Cycle-X was talking about Honda bond or Gaskacinch that is to be used on the case halves, not the cylinder head.
The cylinder block to engine case has a paper gasket, and you CAN use Gaskacinch on that, but not on the cylinder head to cylinder junction.
Be careful not to put so much on that it clogs up a oil drain or oil galley hole.
On the alternator cover just put Gaskacinch on one side use some Vasoline on the other side of the gasket case you need to remove that cover some time without ruining the gasket.
On the shifting drum case use sealer on both sides. You will not need to take that off.
Also do not put anything on the points cover. On the points cover just use a little Vasoline on that and the cork gasket should already be glued to the inside of the points cover. That way the cover comes off for timing the engine easily. Ther should be no oil in that area anyway.
