Why do people have to lie?
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:39:57 AM »
First, this isn't motivated by anyone here in this forum.  Although it could be, and you will see yourself if you do this.

I'm not talking about lying to avoid getting caught doing wrong or things like that.  That I sorta understand.  I'm talking about lying to make yourself look better or cooler than you really are.  Is your life so bad that you have to lie to make you better than anyone else?

I was in a van forum, and the thread led to a discussion on electronics.  This dude stated that he had a combination AM/FM/CB/Ham radio.  Now, I've been a Ham for 10 or 11 years, and have worked in both a Ham radio store, and in a Motorola shop.  Nobody makes a ham radio combined with a stereo or CB.  Ever.  So I asked specifically what make/model it was,(giving him the benefit of the doubt) and the response was "a buddy of mine got it somewhere, and he can't remember where".  Apparently, he is somehow prevented to look at the radio to see a brand name!

Now I realize that chances are, that me ranting won't keep anyone from doing this.  It's just a way for me to vent.  I do feel a bit better.  But only until the next time someone pulls this stunt.  Maybe somebody will think twice before doing it.  I don't know.

Note to liars; Your B/S will catch up to you.

End of rant.  Anyone want to borrow the soapbox?

Just got over that issue myself in another post.

Maybe later. Over it now and don't want to fan the kindling fire.

... So I asked specifically what make/model it was,...

RCI-2950

It has AM even though hams haven't used it for half a century. It has FM in case you're near a 10-meter repeater. (it could happen, there's a couple out there) It's a high-power CB so you can squish on mud ducks. It covers the 10m Amateur band in case he gets a license.

...or it's one of those '70s GM combo stereo CB things in which case it quit working 30 years ago.

He wasn't talking about a ham radio that has AM and FM modes.  He was referring to a combo radio, in the style of those stereo/CBs from the 70s.  He also said he had multiple CBs for multiple conversations.  His receiver(s) must be fried.

Sounds like he settled for the prototype, mine had the Tv and an early version of voice activation. If I would have waited a couple months the language translator would have been kinda nice for some of the Ham radio conversations.

So apparently you've never been to a bar before?

Embellishment is one thing.  Makes for a good story.  And what haven't men said to get into.....  well, we aren't in a bar, so I won't continue that statement.  It's the "Look at how magnificent I am because of what I have" types I'm talking about.  The ones that don't seem to have the life they want.
