front sprocket 750 15 tooth
« on: May 06, 2005, 09:37:20 PM »
I have what seems to be some freeplay on my front sprocket at the splines.  I can rock it back and forth 1/16 inch (measuring at the teeth)  is this normal, do they wear like this?  someone made a shim to push the sprocket back toward the case because the shaft spline now sticks out beyond the center of the sprocket a little bit.  Sould I be concerned about this wear? My new sprocket fits the same way.

I may have the record for a worn out chain. I took it off and pushed the links together and the measured the distance.  The chain streched 2.5 inches.  my book said .25 is worn out!

Does the flange on the front sprocket go toward the engine or on the outside?
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

What year? Most often aren't the front sprockets 17 or 18 teeth, stock that is. Is the 15 tooth sprocket the correct width, maybe not and someone is trying to compensate with the spacer??
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Quail, the front sprocket does have some allowable movement back and forth on the shaft, so I wouldn't worry. Also the '77/78's had a slightly different way of shimming the sprocket, I think because of the 630 chain size. I changed mine over to the 530 combination on the earlier bikes, with positive results. But mind you, the rear wheel is an inch shorter than the earlier models, so some ratio-mathematics might be in order if you do predominantly hiway riding or all city riding.

the freplay on yours is it push and pull with the chain or is it in and out on the shaft.  I have both

Mine would move laterally along the shaft a bit, and the whole shaft and sprocket would turn a bit. But a lot is too much.
