Boulovard S83 Suzuki good/bad what do you know?
« on: December 06, 2011, 07:33:19 PM »
OK I'm kinda smitten by a very nice red Suzuki S83 Boulovard, it's a 2006 model with 2000 klm on it, I make that 400 k's a year so either the PO was #$%* scared of it or they just didn't ride it.
I need to know what others think of this model, I've Utubed it to death and Googled every revue I can find.
Some owners love them, wouldn't have another bike, others say they are a lemon with numerous faults.
Does any member of the forum have some first hand knowledge of these beasts?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

How big is the engine?
That looks exactly like what they used to sell here as Intruder 800?
They are good bikes if you like that style, brakes are pretty much useless but for slow cruising that bike is fine.

It's a 1400cc Vee twin, they were called the Intruder until 2004 when they became the Suzuki S83, the 83 is something to do with the displacement of the pistons?

Two guys at work have them and both have nothing but good things to say.  Only negative is the air filter on the old Intruder-they were foam and would deteriorate over the years and fill up the carbs with the pieces, maybe the newer Boulevards have something different as far as the filter. Very sharp looking bike...Larry

Maybe that explains why all the Intruders I've seen are equipped with Dynojet kit and K&N's.

GOOD! Nice ALL DAY cruiser.

A few years back my oldest son rode a 800cc Intruder from Texas to NC. He weighed about 250# at the time . My Other son (about 250#) went for a ride with him (ON THE BACK) They got stopped by a COP doing 90MPH, The COP DID NOT give them a ticket because he couldn't beleive 2 GUYS that BIG was riding on a 800cc only bike..

Not that I have pulled the air filters but according to the owners manual they are reuseable, just wash them in soapy water, wring them out then a light coating of oil (kinda like the old motor mower ones) and you are good to go.

Chuck, that speaks volumes for the tow power of these bikes. ;D

It is just a filter.  I am sure there are many brands and types for it.  Go check it out, if it is in good shape, the price is right and you really want it.............need I say more?

If in time you do not like it.....sell it.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Hush,  they are reuseable but if not maintained(oiled) the foam completely deteriorates and gets sucked into the venturi area of the carbs.  I had to rebuild both of my buddies.  I would suggest a good K&N to replace the foam original-maybe the newer Boulevards have a different style...Larry

An 83 is cubic inches, which all self respecting Vtwins are measured.   ;)

83ci=1360cc

The 1400 Intruder was actually 1360cc.

Gas tank's too small for me.   ;)

I don't know MC, the specs say 150 miles average on a tank which is 3.4 gallons. They certainly look small and it only cost $15 to fill it from reserve yesterday.
The greatest distance I think in NZ between gas stations would be from my city of Napier to Taupo, my mate's harley 1200 Sportster which has a real tiny tank can make Taupo so the S83 should plus some. :)

Yep Mick, not much in between here and Taupo as you found out when you visited ha ha.
I've taken the screen off as it seemed to detract from the handling of the bike, it's only a Givi bolt on. Not sure about going to Wanganui on New Years day for the bike races though I'd love to, weather watch is not good for bikes and there will be hundreds heading there.

Yes I stand corrected. 3.4 gallons (looks smaller) with 40-50 mileage. Very good. Have fun!   :D

Nice one Mick, you can keep those tropical storms or boot them up to the Islands where they belong! We had enough of earthquakes, coal mines caving in and one in a hundred year storms devastating our little green patch of paradise. ;)
