New Member from Steubenville, OH
« on: April 19, 2012, 11:50:49 AM »
I'm a new member to the forum from Steubenville, OH, which is about 30 minutes west of Pittsburgh, PA.  I got my first bike at the beginning of the year, a 1974 CB550 and after finding out that it needed a lot of work to get into riding shape I bought my second bike, a 1977 CB550.  I am a very cautious rider, I'm rarely in a hurry to get anywhere when I'm on my bike.  I used to drive an exciter 250 when I first got my license 20 years ago and drove dirtbikes when I was a kid, but I forgot how much I missed it until I started riding again.  I have my 74 in enough parts right now that I could ship it in boxes, so I am here pretty often trying to find helpful tips and tricks.  I'm usually in my garage with a clymer book in one hand, a haynes book on my bench, and a wrench in my other hand.  I find I like working on bikes nearly as much as driving them.  Though not a grease monkey per se, I am an engineer and spend a lot of time working on machines, so hopefully it will be a fairly smooth transition to motorcycle repair/restoration.  I have already been able to have mechanics do welding and machining work for me so that always helps.

Welcome sir....Former pittsburgher here, living in York.
I certainly appreciate Steubenville for the diverse heritage which spawned Traci Lords, Dean Martin AND the band Wild Cherry.  Good luck with the project and play that funky music white boy.

Welcome. In addition to the manuals you have, you might want to download the Honda manual also (scroll down a bit).

Thanks guys for replying to my post.  I was starting to feel like a red headed step child.  jgmmgood, you forgot to mention wu-tang clan.  Thanks Bob for the link.  I have it now.  I've actually been using sohron's build thread as my manual up to this point.  I have tons of pictures to post as soon as I get full member status.  This site is incredible, the amount of really knowledgeable people that take time out to help out novices is really cool.

Welcome to the forum!  I'm a noobie in Pittsburgh.  I was in Steubenville once.  Recorded some drums for a Beretta 9 demo haha.  Good to find SOHC guys around me.

Wow, and you made it out alive??  I've seen some of the other posts where a bunch of local people get together for a ride.  We should try to see how many people we could pool together.  I love seeing all the cool SOHC bikes out there and it would be nice to put names with faces.

That's a definite possibility.  They have some kind of map that show where everybody is on here.  Although I wouldn't think everyone does that.

I gotta thru phase 1 of my build and then my 750 will be running sometime late summer.
