Hello everyone!

I picked up my first bike this summer. Its an 1982 CB650SC. I got a pretty good deal on it and it only has 7,000 miles and it runs pretty good. I'm hoping to do a cafe build. Nothing too radical because the previous owner took such good care of it.

A couple of problems I'm having with the bike...
In lower rpm ranges the bike will lurch under acceleration. It doesn't matter what gear but after that it runs great. Any ideas on what could cause that?
Also, occasionally I will find a false neutral when shifting from 4th to 5th. Is that a sign that my clutch could be going out?

Welcome...these bikes don't have much low end torque.  All the power is at the top of the tach.  Try riding at higher rpms.  I am not very familiar with the 650, but the 550, which is very similar mechanically really does not make decent power until at least 4500 rpm.  False neutrals are not caused by the clutch.  Try to be very deliberate when you shift these, many like to put a little gentle pressure on the shifter ahead of time, then when the clutch is pulled, clunk the shifter home firmly.  False neutrals can also be caused by transmission problems such as bent shift forks or worn out gear dogs.

Thanks you! I'll try to focus on that when shifting and see if the problem persists. I only started riding last summer. I just thought it was strange that it only happens between 4th and 5th gear..

Okay thanks. I'll look into that. I rode it to work today and I think shifting more deliberately helps but it still happened a couple of times... I'm in Lakewood. What about you?

Oh that's not too far. I don't have a night hawk just the 650SC. I was a little confused on the model when I first bought it.

This might be a dumb question but I'm trying to learn... haha

I was going to adjust my air mixture screw but there is a hose going into where I think the screw is supposed to be on one of the carbs.. What do I need to do to adjust the air mixture on that one?

those are the sync ports.  That hose goes to the fuel auto shut off.  Air mix is on the bottom and they are limited if still stock.    I did get the 360 out for a a ride yesterday.  Dam thing just sits and sits and just starts right up.    Old bike ride is coming up soon.
