Fuel Pump Wiring inside a Fuel Cell.
« on: May 30, 2022, 02:26:54 PM »
Installing a 22 gallon ATL fuel cell in the back of the race car. We have two in tank fuel pumps that came with the Lexus. Considering using them INSIDE the cell.....

Does anyone know of a small, liquid proof, bulkhead style connector that I could use to get the pump power and ground leads out through the top plate on the cell?

Found one. McMaster-Carr #7807K11. Threads in on a 3/8” NPT and has a soft rubber core plug with two wire openings. As you tighten the top gland nut, the rubber seals around the wire..... Neat.

Awesome, it's kind of a strange idea to us old guys but they've done it now for decades.

Don.... it creeps me out some days. I used to be fairly knowledgeable but lately I discover more and more stuff I don’t know anything about! Yikes!

Most of these pumps actually drive the fuel right through the electric motor housing to keep it cool!

Looks like you found an economical solution..

Amphenol makes a lot of Military and Aerospace connectors.
A look in their electrical bulkhead sections, you may find one that is rated for the intended environment.

They’re pricey but they are used frequently when the connection must be reliable…

I got a new gas tank for my firebird that was made with a fitting for an in tank electric pump and a separate sending unit. I bought the pump rated for around 600 horsepower, I'm worried it might be too big and heat up the fuel by over pumping.
The motor will be a Pontiac 400 bored and stroked to around 462 cubic inches or left at 400 with a centrifugal blower.
