Final drive chain and sprocket lubrication
« on: April 02, 2021, 05:11:38 PM »
Over the years I've used a number of oils to lubicate my bike final drive chain and sprockets:

Engine oil
80W gear box oil I had to get rid a 4ltr pack for a car we had gotten rid of. Took around 10 years ;)
Graphite based and dry lubes of various types on O-Ring chains.
Now CRC Tac-2 which I am am very happy with on the CB550 standard chain and XF650s X-Ring chain.

What have you al used in the past and happy with now?

Really?
I thought x and o ring chains were verboten on the 550.
What brand are you using?
I wouldn't mind one on the Canary.

It's a fun ride. Similar power output as my CB550F. More in lower rev range though. 100lbs lighter than the CB550F

Has a DR650 donk running bigger valves, two spark plugs in the head and two carburetors.

Less than 50 were bought in to New Zealand. None went to the US.

First pic is the day I test road it.

Second pic Goat as he is now.

I will only use sealed chains. (sorry 550 owners, I don't own one) I really don't lube them until they start to show signs of their life ending, then I have had good results with Bel-Ray Black.  The real lube is inside the seal.  Just keep them clean by scrubbing down with wd40 soaked rag.
