Cleaning SL350 K0 Black Carbs
« on: September 23, 2024, 02:47:22 AM »
Usually, clean carbs in ultrasonic cleaner with a water/simple purple mix. Worried that it will remove the paint and wondering what would be safe to use.
Also, if I go the ultrasonic cleaner route, do I need to punch out the emulsion tubes or can I leave them in. So far, the carbs have been pretty clean aside from some sediment in the bowl. Thanks!

The carbs didn't come black from the factory.
Paint will come off in the ultrasonic/heat or carb dip soak cleaner. Even spray cleaner on the paint will strip the paint.

They will also work a lot better when they aren't coated in paint. ;)
Look for tiny plugged-up vent holes, I think the first SL350 (with the CV carbs) had 1 on the inside of each carb body.

Actually I believe the SL350K0 did come from the factory with black carbs. But it was just paint.

Did a bit more research and yes they did come in black that year. I did run them through the ultrasonic cleaner with a bit of LPS Precision cleaner. Paint stayed on fine but took a bit of sheen off the finish.
