Bahndrvr's Project, 1977 CB550 from a member on here:)

Got it yesterday, traded a 89 NX250 plus he gave me the CB and couple hundred bones.  Stated it ran fine but wouldn't crank after his maden voyage.  I tinkered with it tonight and got it to crank, there was a short on the on off switch, and right now the headlight doesn't work, but that's not the worsto f the problems, going to have to tear into the carbs soon as the number 2 or number 3 carb float is stuck I believe, it leaks gas like a siv and is dumping it on the header:(  I'll fix it soon enough but i'm moving on Friday so it will be put on the back burner, I'm just glad I got it to run on my first try:)

I'll get the carb straightened out and first order of business will be clubman bars and then I'm going to do the filter pods on it and do my little tweaking and cafe it out, it's in pretty good shape and don't mind the pic's, they are from the camera phone.

But they are pic's and this is my first post so flame away if you like, I will eventually do a hybrid build on it and I've built plenty of bikes in the past so this should be a good project for me:)

I understand that pods are the in thing with cafe bikes but these old honda's had a very well designed air box and every old Honda i have had ran a lot better with the stock air box and were a lot easier to tune....just my opinion....

I'll consider that for sure, not sure what direction I'll be going with it immediately, just strip, repaint, and drive for a bit, then after that I'll start the performance stuff and the seat and bars will be the first tings to address:)

I have another air box as well as a few other parts to go along with it so I'll do it piece by piece, just have to address this carb issue soon, went out and showed my roomate what it sounded like, it's going to be al ot of work but good news is the compression is good, and the brakes work:)

Alright,

I moved, don't have internet in my house yet but went through Biketoberfest and man, I changed my mind, I'm going rigid bobber look on it and will be riding it into the ground, working a deal on a new CBR1000rr so if that works out I will be tearing this apart on my new back porch, and getting rid of every wire that's not necessary and welding up a hardtail, decided to use the front chrome fender as the back, and will hopefully whitewall the tires as well, but will just hardtail it and ride it until I need tires as these are fairly new, got two job interviews this week and VA appointments all day on Tuesday, so work will start soon, about to go pull the carbs off and see if I can find the hole in the float, found some floats for 15 bucks, and only need one sooo...

Well, tinkered with it today, got the battery charged, plugs out except number two, cleaned and gapped the plugs, then took the carbs off and cleaned them up, floats were sticking, but while in there I noticed I don't have the "leaf" springs on my jets like mentioned in the manual, is this necessary?

Well, put it back together, started it and took her on the maiden voyage, sputtering and spitting the whole way, checked the plugs and yeap, they two were wet, and one was carboned up, seems to be only running on a couple of cylinders, so, will look at the points soon, and probably go from there, won't tear it apart till I get it running right, then i'll tear into the body work and do what I can until I get a job.  Total investment so far - Positive 250;-)

Well,

Wanted to get this started up again.  Got my new job and it's killed my time, but between my VA benifit money, and Reserve money, I will have money to put into this build and make it worthwhile.

Found the title for the bike on Monday, so pretty stocked as I was not going to build it without the title:)

So, today I ordered coils and plug wires for the bike, and the VERY needed ignition advancer.  After that i will get her running - she dumps gas out of one of the float bowls but want to get it running before I worry on that because right now she only runs on 1 cylinder.

Iv'e tinkered with it some and have made the final decision to cafe it, can't decide if I'm doing clip on's or clubman bars though.  I am proably going to buy an aluminum tank and aluminum rear setup for it and polish it up and have it cleared to hold the polished look in.

Other than that, want to get it running, then tag it, and start driving the piss out of it soon, the riding weather here is killing me as I don't have a rideable bike right now in Florida:(

Expect teardown, and update pic's in the next few months, I'm a very OCD person when I get on a project and once the parts come in I'll get alot done, then start tearing it down.

I only have a stick welder  right now but considering a 110 mig setup for couple of little frame tweeks I'm going to be doing to this.  As well as adding a mount for rearsets...

Wanted to ask, what is a good off the shelf upgrade on the carbs for this ride?

As usual #$%* came up but got the pic's of what I'm working with:)  The coils I ordered didn't come, bum ebay'r didn't send, but we got it straightened out:)

Got the shipping confirmation for the Clubman bars, and the Coils tonight:)

Also sold some mustang parts so might go ahead and order my rear seat setup or buy some fiberglass and build my own setup:)

I will be buying a tank though, just not till after it's running right. Sorry for the Night pic's, as mentioned I have a camera I can keep with me while doing work, have my kids and if it's not raining like it was tonight, I will put the advancer in tomorrow while they are outside playing:)

Here's the dark pics...
