From what I can tell the rocker cover was painted from the factory, so go ahead and paint yours whatever color you want. Do a forum search and see what methods/materials others have used for painting an engine.

Someday I'll get at this project again. Money is pretty tight for the next year while my wife goes to school full-time. For now all the parts continue to sit in a box in the basement  :(

Thanks Hoo! Iv read through your build like 20 times!  I was wondering if i could run a few things by you?  Last june i got a 73 350f in pretty decent shape,  Since then i have put 2,500k on her.   Well my parents own a old house for sale a little ways down the road and said i could set up a little shop in the cement floor basement to give her a "FaceLift".  I have a few plans for her, The engine runs strong but I'm going to give a few things updates.  Tell me what you think of this plan.

Tank and Side covers Repainted( i have 2 sets of side covers)
3000 mile Tune Up
New NGk plug wires
Electronic Ignition
Cb 400f Handlebars for a more "Sporty Look"
Paint some parts black-Rocker Cover, Levers, Maybe a few more??
New Lines all around
I will be sending the carbs to a member on here to do a number on them, should i get bigger jets installed?
Polish Basically Everything
I already have a new chain and front and rear sprocket to put on, Gear Ratio for highway riding ( Baltimore Beltway 60-70 mph)
Took off front turn signals, so i would like some smaller good looking Rear Signals
New Air Filter ( what is a good brand?? )
Purchasing new Tach and Speedo from a member here in great condition

I know this is a huge post on your thread but you and i are close in Age and Situation ( School, Newlywed, Money, Ect )
Please let me know what you think of that, or if you had any good suggestions.  If i figure out how to post Pictures i will!
Thanks Man!

Sounds like you have a good plan for your project. Have a good place to do the work makes a big difference.

As far as changing the main jet size, it sounds like you're keeping the stock airbox and filter. I've always run an oem honda filter but I'm sure the cheaper emgo ones would work okay. You don't mention what type of exhaust you have but as long as the intake is the stock you may not have to rejet. You're probably just going to have to get the bike all together and see how it runs and go from there.

How far did you change the "gear ratio"? I know some members (myself included) would suggest keeping the stock gearing. These bikes just don't have much reserve power on the freeways and taller gearing will only make that worse.  You'll turn more rev's with the stock ratios but it's really not an issue. These smaller honda motors were made to maintain high revs.

Get some pictures up when you have a chance!

Alright cool! what is the easiest way to upload pictures?

Believe it or not the bike actually has matching numbers 4into4 exhaust! I wasn't sure whether or not i should chance the jetting anyway or just get new ones or really clean the older ones.

As far as the difference in ratio, I'm not entirely sure.  the Previous Owner gave them to me with the bike and said it would drop the revs on the highway.

still here ;) I don't get on here as often as I used to but I've been checking in on your thread when I can. Your bike looks great! Too bad about the holes in the exhaust though.
