Starter clutch/flywheel rotor woes

Hey all,
I'm getting ready to replace my starter clutch and flywheel rotor in this next week or so. Any potentially helpful advice?

My ride is a '76 Cb750k

The rotor may be spinning on the tapered end of the crank-shaft. If so, you may only need to tighten the bolt that locks the rotor to the crank.

Thinking you are going to replace the rollers, springs and caps?! Drill out the 'stakes' on the 3 screws then only use an impact driver on the screws.

Why replace the rotor? It's just a big chunk of metal that can not go bad. Maybe use a lighter model one if yours is of the heavier variety?

The bolt should be torqued to ~ 72 ftlbs.

If the mating surface for the rollers on the gear is very irregular you may consider replacing the gear.

An air impact would be VERY helpful.

It's sounding like I should just swap out the rollers, springs and caps after all. My issue is that when trying to start the bike up the starter gear doesn't engage - all I get is a crazy spinning sound. I'm hoping this will fix it because I'm dying to finally ride dammit!!
