Rebuilding the "rat racer"...

So.. here we are... 

today I ripped out the engine with some help from a friend



As you all can see its winter..

so.. as the bacholer I am.. Im taking this to the 8th floor apartment I live in.





My plan is to do a top-end rebuild
polish things down, and get rid of a few major leaks



I am a Novice at best... so hopefully I can get some educated feedback from you guys on how to fix this within 1st of may

True true... But we should get bare roads in May I hope.

as for the seat.. Yeah I know, but thats part of the rat look.

But I have a plan for that aswell...getting a sewingmachine and use the same threadcolor as the frame... and use black marine vinly for the rest of it...

Good idea.  The seat has a good shape -- it just needs to be re-upholstered.

MAY!!?? It's 80 degrees today here.  That's 26.6 Celsius.

Is that an elevator? That would make things easy. I had to carry my bike up the stairs to my 3rd floor condo. ha

So I took off the cam cover

The camshaft has the markings "norris RX2 AJ #56" I tried googleing it and it didnt give much of a result..

anyone know what it is... or what a PO has done with it?

So as it is I was very lucky today... I have been searching the net to find specs on that carb..

Went and found some Norwegian Cafe guys...
and one of them he had a book he got way back in the days... He really made my day...

and there its was listed as a Hot Street/Roadrace cam ideal for 836 bigbore.

with a lift of .381"/.357" and a duration of 290/280 degrees...

so I ripped out the camshaft..





That last picture.... that where I spot the most wear.. is that considered alot?

teardown continues...

Finding only copper gaskets...

Boresize is 63,6...
