330mm disks and 4 piston calipers on a 77F
« on: March 26, 2010, 02:41:31 PM »
Well after owning and riding 2 sohc4's and falling in love, the one area where i felt they most lack is in the brakes.

My 750 build i knew i was going to upgrade them, and in a big way. I bought some morris mag wheels, and a brake system off an 02 cbr 954, as well as a goldwing front end and started taking measurements and making sketches.

As some of you may know, morris mags have separate hubs holding the wheel bearings that bolt on to the wheel. This made my life pretty easy, as i just decided to make new ones, that were large enough to hold the 330mm rotors.

This is what i came up with so far:

Not finished, but it was good enough for a long nights work. Still have to bore the centers for the bearing once i find a reamer in that size. I plan on running an acewell speedo so i don't need a provision for a mechanical drive. The caliper brackets should be fun to make.

Nice work on the disks.  Will you be making a set for the bugeye Sprite?

That is my buddy's car.. He wants to do something with it. We have been tossing around the idea of a miata drivetrain, suspension, brakes etc underneath it.

You'll be very happy when you are done. The brakes on the 929/954 are some of the best ever put on a bike. Use the 954 master cylinder too.

The caliper adapters will take some time but it looks like you are capable. Do you have a mill?

And a Sprite that moves like a Miata would be very cool.

I have the 954 master as well, just need a reservoir. It is my friends equipment. He has an old bridgeport mill that we are doing the caliper adapters on.

Decided to let the caliper brackets get handled by a professional. Should have them Saturday and i can start swapping front ends!
