Just because they had that stuff in a catalog, doesn't necessarily mean they ever made any.

A bloke called Greg Petty won a 6 hour production race here in Australia on an XS.
The bike was converted to chain drive and was quite competitive.
Greg was a legendary racer here at the time.
Unfortunately he lost his life in an accident last year.
Rex Wolfenden has recently built a chain drive XS, I believe it was in memory of Greg.
He races the bike at most Historic race meetings we attend and I can't help but smile when I see it.
Greg was a top bloke.

Cheers,
Brian

Blue, I have the one with the stripes on the cover, and a painting of the triple on the front.

The other I have is a later one, has a photo of the V8 blown bike, if you fold the cover flat it is a big picture.

A bit hard for me to get pics on, will ask my kidlet if she can start posting pics for me.

They ran a 7.57 @ 183 in September 1979 which I believe was a world record at the time.

I believe I saw it run a 7.43 at some point. It was a cronic parts breaker. Other fuel racers used the top end on aftermarker cases and crank ( which were the weak points ) and went real fast. I believe Brian Johnson ran 6.12 at close to 240

I'm sure Ian would go light on me when I order the crankcases, I'm not sure where I would find the other £77,000 for the rest of it though :D :D :D :D didn't want to run in the 6s anyway ::)

Hi Jon, my oar might be broke but I'm not quite pennyless. ;D
Everything I earn goes into racing, be it for myself or others.
My street ET project with Mike and Bill might be at the lower end of the drag racing scale but at least I am still racing.
To build a top fuel bike costs in the region of £80,000 and running it for one season costs about the same, money well beyond my reach.
As well as the street ET bike, I've been running the RS175 in land speed competition and my old Honda Benly in classic/vintage  events.
The good thing about this sport is the lack of class distinction, most top runners will even help one another even when competing in the same class against them irespective of the outcome of a race.
Although we knew one another through the internet, I first met Ian King at Valdosta a few years back. Since then he has pointed me in the direction of nimonic valves suitable for my classic bike and pointed me in the direction of a local company that could supply me with ceramic coatings for pistons for the RS175. The said company has since become one of my sponsors.
Long live the KING.

Sam. ;)
