Hero Worship....
« on: May 23, 2006, 03:52:57 AM »
I've never been into it..but this little dude is a bit special isn't he?..Rossi...A sporting prodigy. Do a search using  www.video.google.com and see what is available on this young fellow. The rotary set go all gooey about 4 wheel drift, let's see them try it on two wheels..   8)

It will be a bit of a loss if he signs up with Ferrari for F1 in 2007...It will be a loss for motorcycling . ....

But then again, it might be good to see boring old predictable Shumaker knocked off his multi billion dollar pedestal..

Unfortunately, many americans have never heard about Rossi because the "Continental Circus" has no major impact in the races ruled by the AMA.

But don't forget that Schumacher is not the FormulaOne champion, but the spaniard Fernando Alonso. Nobody gave a damn about F1 in Spain until the new hero was born. Now the Renault he sponsors has become top seller. Some things never change...

Keep your eye on Mark Webber, (the boy from Oz) once he gets a reliable car to drive, he's gonna mop the floor with all those Spaniards and Box Heads! (Germans) Ha ha, and on the bikes, Casey Stoner looks like becoming the next Mick Doohan, so move over Rossi! Cheers, Terry. ;D

As the italians say, Rossi is a "fuoriclase", but watch out for another Spaniard, last year's 250 cc champion Dani Pedrosa. He seems to be much more of an opposition to Rossi than Sete Gibernau never was or could be even with Ducati this year -grandson of Don Francisco Bulto, founder of Bultaco-.

I worship the crap out of these guys.  Moto GP is becoming more mainstream here in the US now.  We have a few more Americans to root for these days.  I started seriously following when Hayden went over.   I've watched him develop in the AMA series, and always thought he could make it on the World level.  He's been right there, and I'd really like to see him make the jump and win some more races.  I'll always root for Edwards too, as he's the local boy around here.   His house is a few miles up the road from me.

Nicky was a guest instructor at a dirt-track racing school I took a few years ago.  This was the year he won the 600cc title in AMA.  We raced little XR100's around a rodeo arena, and it's amazing the level of control he has, even at slow speeds.  He would lap me about every 30 seconds, and he was riding about 50%, and chatting with people in the stands.  Check out these videos of he and some other GP guys riding supermoto bikes.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8462378466997568582&q=supermotard&pl=true

I think Rossi will stick around another year to assert his dominance over "Mini Me" (Pedrosa).  He's still the man to beat even with his bad luck this year.  The M1 has a new chassis now, aiming to eliminate the chatter issue.  I think he'll be hard to catch in the European rounds.  It's definately more entertaining than last year when he wrapped up the title with three races left.  They should make him sit out three rounds every year.

If you can get to Monterrey, CA in July 21st-23rd, you should make a point to see the Laguna Seca GP this year.  I vowed to go see it, but I knocked up my wife again and have a baby due.  But, I'll take a healthy baby over racing any day.  Maybe I'll make it next year...if she can keep her hands off me.

HAHAHA congratulations on the baby, seems that the winter was so long, wasn't it?  HAHAHAHA

I saw Laguna Seca for the first time last year and i love that corkscrew. It was good for the american fans that an american won; maybe they will start go get more interest on it.

"Mini Me", that Austin Powers joke is a good one. Have you seen how have him to start the races? With his left foot standing on the ground, his right foot is hangin on the air over the footpeg. He can't sit on the bike and put a foot on the ground.

Motorcycle racing is great because you can actually see the man interacting with the machine.  You can tell the difference (even on television) between a big 'ol Texan like Edwards and a little guy like Pedrosa.

Nobody will ever get close to Rossi in the "cool" department.  He's just got that laid back Italian charisma.  He won my admiration when he passed Biaggi and shot him the bird after being run off track.  If you're dragging a knee mid-corner and still have the presence of mind to say "FU" to another racer you're a badass.  If you've seen the "Faster" DVD they give a good recap of that incident.  Mind games are a big part of racing, just look how whipped guys like Biaggi and Gibernau look after he beat them week after week and made it look easy.

Just look how much reserve this guy has.  He's leaned over with Gibernau on his ass, but look at his left hand -- he's casually reaching for a tear-off on his visor.

He can also laugh at himself about his luck this year...he doesn't seem too worried yet.

I think I understand the cause  ;D I can't stop that, but the wifey says this will be the last baby.  There's been talk of a little "snip snip" about the house  :-\.  Can't say I'm looking forward to that, but I'll probably be ready to volunteer after another round of late night feedings and diaper changes.

Anyway, enough of my balls...back to hero worship...it looks like Rossi has decided to hang around another year:

Quote
Sources very close to MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi say that the reigning world champion won't be racing F1 next season after all.
Sources say that Rossi and his manager informed Ferarri Corse yesterday that he has decided to race MotoGP in 2007.

It will be interesting to see how things work out with the 800cc limit next year.  It seems Honda always gets a jump on development when the rules change.  Less power favors the smaller riders like Pedrosa.  Little sucker weighs 105 lbs.

That's Nicky Hayden on the Honda.  He's grown up dirt tracking and it shows.  I guess the same principles apply at 200 mph on a GP machine...things just happen a little faster.

Watch a few Moto GP races and you'll see him getting sideways and lighting up the rear tire on HRC's state-of-the-art 250 h.p. Vee-Five.

On that note, it's sad to see traction control starting to creep into motorcycle racing now.  I'm not sure which teams are using it, but I think most have some sort of electronic help.  It's making it too easy for merely good riders to hang with the greats.  If you listen to guys like Kenny Sr, Barry Sheene, Ago, etc... they'll tell you they're all pussies now.  Real men rode 500cc two-stroke highside machines.

That's why I like Superbikes. They are street bikes with a limited number of modifications allowed. Thay way the races are more contended.

World Superbike is some of the best racing going right now.  It's probably got a lot to do with the Pirelli spec tires, but I'm glad to see all the manufacturers getting into the action.

I wish that crazy Aussie Anthony Gobert could stay off the drugs and stay in racing a while.  I thought he had a wild card ride in World Supersport -- not sure how that worked out.  He's amazing to watch and one of those natural talents like Rossi, just without the work ethic.

I started a thread a while back about Rossi's chances of winning this year, but cannot find it. So please excuse the hijack.

After todays race I think he is in with an outside chance of winning the championship (notwithstanding last weeks cock-up at Phillip Island), but I hope Nicky Hayden can hang on, so that we have a bit of variety as world champion this year.

I'm pulling for the Kentucky Kid. Looks like he not only got held back by a bad start but wasn't quite as fast today. Next 2 races should be interesting. Don't like yellow bikes anyway. All of us crazy Kentucky #$%*ers stick together. Most people just don't understand. How would you say viva la Hayden in Italian?
