Honda CB550 CAFF - FINISHED
« on: January 09, 2012, 07:28:00 PM »
hi, just i thought id share the progress of my custom.
Its been a long protracted affair with lots of false starts, lengthy delays, blown budgets but it coming together quick now so i thought id share with you the results.

The SOHC has been an invaluable source of information, ive hardly had to post a tech question, the search engine always reveals someone who had been in the same boat before. Hugely indebted!

Terry in Australia built the engine for me. If you read this Terry, my apologies ive lost contact with you, ive moved back to perth and i lost ya number. Hope you are well mate, i always enjoy reading your posts & ya sense of humour!

A shout out to Goddfrey Garage, im sure some of his parts will find its way onto this bike. Now if i could just afford his hydraulic clutch kit  ;)

Because of my shift interstate, the last 10% is being finished by Garage Projects here in Perth. Im hoping by posting this thread it will draw attention to their cool, newly established company. Check em out:

Ive tried to keep it retro looking, but upgraded the engine & suspension without having to do a major front end swap, which (only in my opinion only) wrecks the vintage look.
Suspension: Race tech fork emulators, springs, preload adjustors & good YSS rear shock.
Engine: 61mm pistons, webcam, HD springs, heavy porting & Keihin CR26's
Internals: lithium battery, keyless ignition, dyna 2000, electronic speedo, warning lights

last tear down before completion:

For all the people who notice the firestones, yes they handle like crap i know, so they are no longer part of the build. Running a modern compound.

usual list:

Re-bored from 544cc to 594cc with HA pistons & CB750 rings
26mm Keihin CR smoothbore carburettors & Mikuni push-pull throttle
Powerflow stage 2 ported cylinder head
WebCam 58a hardwelded camshaft & race valve springs
Tsubaki cam chain, tensioner & guide
Race Tech fork emulators/springs, TTR400 preload adjustors, chrome caps
K&N air filters
Custom frame with new tail section to house relocated battery box
Alloy tank with Golan petcock & solo seat
4-2 reverse cone chambered pipes
YSS SS twin shock rear suspension
Disco Volante classic Italian rear sets
Disco Volante clip on bars & anti vibe grips
Halcyon bar end mirror
New front / rear sprockets and Tsubaki 530 gold chain
Billet chain tensioner, rod, yoke nut, tappets
Drilled front rotor with HEL stainless steel lines, brake pads
Motogadget mini electronic speedometer and warning lights
Motogadget m-lock keyless ignition
Motogadget m-unit
Integrated tachometer/headlight bucket
Dyna 2000 electronic ignition and mini 3.0 ohm coils
8 cell lithium battery
Painted fibreglass shorty front fender
Custom “Rising Sun” rear wheel hugger
Chromed rims and triple clamp, polished covers, forks
Aftermarket steering damper
Firestone Tyres

The cafe scene is pretty small, apologies if you have already seen this all covered on another fourm. Should be finished in a couple of months ready for the Jap Bike Show.
Cheers!

Best move you ever made, that bike needs to be ridden, those tyres would limit that severely.....They are crap. for looks only.... ;)

Hey Valvolux - I followed your trials and tribulations over on the Perth Street Bikes site.  Good to see it finally getting finished!  I'll look out for it at the Jap Bike Show (March?)

I love that exhaust. If were going to build a cafe of any  kind, SOHC4, SOHC2 or a thumper that is the muffler I would want on my bike.
