Ok here is an update to my update. While the rebuilt starter did help with my starting problem it unfortunately did not go away completelty. I bought a used starter gear off eBay from a 78 750f with a claimed milage off only 16000 miles from the engine it was pulled from. I swapped this out with mine and measured the bearing surfaces of the two gears. I couldn't measure any big differences but the one I removed had some flat spots worn all the way around it I could feel. The replacement did not. The bronze bushing in the center of the gear had a tighter fit on the shaft as well. Anyhoo... problem solved for sure this time. The worn starter gear was the ultimate problem. Case closed.

I put a new starter in my 915 build since my F2 starter had the same symptoms.

I also tried all the fixes with nothing working before the new starter.

How easy was it to install the starter?  You need to take off the alternator cover right? Anything else need replacing while doing this apart from alt. gasket if it needs to come off. Thats a good price!

Thanks
Andy

I just removed my starter. I had to remove the cam chain tensioner and the shifter cover only. Use the 2 10mm bolts that hold it in place and screw them into the empty holes for the cover and it lifted right out. Just had to use a mallet to tap the starter out of its home. Be prepared for oil to drain from the shifter cover.

Hey BranDen....thanks for the info.   My starter is acting weird when the motor is hot, works fine when cold, so I going to change it out.
Ran across your thread while researching. Who said the search doesnt work?!

Stev-o , the search never brings up anything when I try to use it.  What's my problem(beside being old and stupid that is)?

I picked up three sets of Texas license car plates at an auction yesterday, would you have any interest?

Typing "Girls with big hooters" won't turn up many results Larry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yes mate, it is yet another attempt to murder the English language, and as we don't have a complaints department, the POT is the next best thing...... ;D

Yep I just use Google and it will bring up a few topics then at the bottom of the result it will say 'see more' and you can click that also.

I think either Glenn doesn't have enough horsepower in the server(s) or his IP won't give him the timeslots needed to create the indexes.  :-\
