My first 650 ride
« on: January 22, 2012, 07:56:44 pm »
I finally got this to the point where I could ride in to the end of the street (about 300 yards maybe).  The bike does not seem to like throttle openings past about 1/8 or 1/4.  Some of that issue went away after it warmed up real good.  I took off with it and even in its sputtering state, this is WAY more power than I'm used to.  I came back to the house and put the choke on a little and tried again.  It ran way better after that but still not perfect.  The bike is LOUD, obviously nothing resembling a baffle is in there anywhere.  I'm thinking the exhaust that's on it is going to require rejetting.  Being so loud though, I may just look for another, or at least put a slip on with a baffle in it first before I tear the carbs apart again.

Yeah, I had that completely apart when I was working another issue.  Timing is spot on.

Looks like a jardine system.  Someone here was looking for one.  Mine is very quite but the baffle is still in too.

How's your plug color ? The other fellow on here w/ his CB650 problem(engine missing while at cruising speed) is having a bit of lean running, etc. I think. You could try jetting it up richer...w/ that pipe on there and O.E. jetting.....I believe that they ran lean even w/ stock equipment. With that pipe on there and no baffle it may be starving for fuel and running real hot.

That's what I'm thinking.  I forgot I have a Kerker muffler off my 750, looks like the same standard size (2").  I'll try that before I go any further.  I've been watching F16s thread too.

When I got my 650, it had no baffles in the mufflers and it ran like a dog, didn't like large throttle openings and wouldn't pull a cowboy off your sister.  I put some new mufflers on it and it improved it greatly, though I had other issues with it, which included a botched cam chain job, stuck spark advancer, timing way out and cracked carb boots.
