Well its been a while sense the last post but the build has slowed just because there simply
isn't enough time in the day to run a business as well as Brian,s business  which he is doing the bottom end.
but there have been more parts coming in so everything is here to start the build
I have re-built the oil pump with new o rings and a seal and checked clearances. All is good there.
New clutch plates are soaking in oil and ready to go also
Have the ignition box mounted and ready to mount the boost sensor (Somewhere) as soon
as I have the motor back in and the turbo mounted. I can drill into the intake and run a hose back to the sensor
I have all of the main bearings as well as the con rod bearings are in so we can (When we find time) have a base line
to measure and check clearances. The case studs are in and locked in to place as well
I am making a new dash (so to speak) to mount the tack, boost gauge, fuel pressure and a switch to turn on the fuel pump.
need to re-hang my tail light with some new brackets as the ignition box has the old location for the tail light.
Just some little things to do before we get back to building the motor. Like Frank (Drag-racer) says:
you cant over look the littlest thing with this build and if it takes anther 2 or 3 months to built then thats
what its going to take..................BUT it will be right and it will be worth it when its done

I know you guys probably know I don't do shinny fancy paint jobs but I would like some ideas
on what would look good as far as a paint scheme that would make the turbo stand out as well as the
old school racer look that my avatar has..................Bill is going to fall out of his seat when he reads this
as he is the bling specialist and I am the opposite. I like practical first and foremost but I think  I can go over to Bills
side for this build...................but only for this build.........sorry Bill. So..........any ideas guys on a paint theme?

Back to work on the other side of my shop

Jim, can you PM me some details on the boost sensor. Just want to do a bit of research to see how it interacts with the MSD controller. We need a good retard MAP. Also, might want to consider a wheelie control of some sort to connect in with the retard. It will only take a second for that short wheel base bike under boost to be on its lids- ummm, "boot" for Sam. Ask Brian about the factory wheelie controls they used to put on the water cooled GXSR's as a possible source.

My 2 cents!!!! ???

mine where cut so I had to do a little un-cutting
it comes with the male plug also
call me if needed

Well its been a while sense the last post ....................long days in the weld shop
But I did make a so called dash for the gauges
fuel, boost and switch to turn on the fuel pump in the upper right hand corner

got the coils wired and waiting on some connectors from MSD to wire the male side switch the the boost
sensor
I went to Brian,s today to pick up some welding and he has one more motor that he is putting together
then we can start on the bottom end of mine (Bearings and then assemble) so that should be at the end of next week.

more to come

Well its finally time to start to assemble everything and its also getting in to some serious
measuring.............
after hard measuring everything with mikes (Bearing mikes) and bore gauges
this is what the clearances are for the con rods to the crank

the crank dia are as follows

#1....1.4172        2.....1.4171           3........1.4171            4.........1.4170

Bearings are as follows and I matched these as close as  I could

.0587              .0587                   .0586                .0588
.0587               .0587                  .0586                .0586

Big ends on the rods are dead on 1.5362 on all 4

after some adding and subtracting the clearances are as follows

#1......... 0.0016                 2.......... 0.0017              3...........0.0019              4...........0.0018

all the numbers before the measurements are for the cylinders 1,2,3,4

I haven't plastic gauged the mains as of yet
and I will plastic-gauge the big ends also but I need to make a fixture to lock the crank to the case so the rods
don't move and check the clearances again and double check everything

Jim

I moved around the bearings and now I have the clearances of 0.0017/0.0018
just need to get the recommended clearances for this type of motor and order the right bearings

Turbos generate a lot of heat so my little JC Whittney oil cooler thats been on the bike
for 20 years has done its job and has been very good at it too
but its time to re-tire the little fella and go with something a little more
shall we say cooler

Here it is from Setrab

I think this should do it don't ya think

and a big thanks to Mike Reick for the out put shaft seal as I didn't know why the seal for
my 75K model would not work. I then realized that this was changed when I built the motor 20 years ago
and I just plain forgot what I did
for those who don't know the 78 750 has a much beefier shaft (69.5mm versus a 65mm) that will work on the early cases
if you noticed there are 2 locator ring grooves and the larger shaft will locate to the outer groove with a wider bearing
but its here and the bottom end is ready to button up
thanks again Mike

 8) 8) 8)  With that oil temp reduction unit  ;)  There is no doubt Jimbo... you will be the coolest dude on the block.

Mate your going well on the build, I'm digging it. When I retire I just want to read threads like this all day until its my turn to go.

Just read LMP Simo's thread and he is having leaks from his main bearing case studs ????

Remember me Jim, one bolt one photo. ;D
