« Reply #275 on: July 28, 2012, 09:01:20 AM »
The real reason for this was I was going to run the head backwards and run it like a top fuel bike
(Yeah right) The BS is getting deep

This is what happens when you assume

Mike and Bill get the (Jim needs to pay attention) prize
the pistons were oriented 180 degrees out. I checked the relation to the valve off set
in the head and the exhaust valves are centered but the intakes are offset.
thanks again guys
and Sam was right also in that some pistons by MTC have the larger cut outs on the exhaust side for the
turbo bikes.
these are turbo pistons but the larger cut outs are for the intake side and not the exhaust
Glad I have friends that arnt afraid of jumping in and telling me I screwed up

Jim

and the O rings will not go back in Mike
thanks for that as I dint know this

Well after a couple of small bumps in the road I am back on track.
learned a lot about flange nuts and how many times you can tighten a nut
before they start to fail. With the APE kits that I have (Case and cylinder)
the flange nuts are good for 2 rounds of going threw the torque sequence
first, for plasti gauge and then for final torque. IF you have to pull the cases apart (And I did a couple of times)
then either get new flange nuts or go with the Honda exhaust nuts the Mike Reick told me. Honda part number 90301-HM8-000
These have twice the threads as the ones in the APE kits and they are plated so they wont rust. (Thanks Mike)

Also one of the reasons for splitting the cases (for the finale time I might add) was that
I got a little too liberal with the sealant and got too close to the mains as Brian livingood noted. Hes the owner of livingood motorsports and the engine builder of road race and drag race engines. He brought over a Busa motor for a little welding (Customer threw a chain) and wanted to see how my build was going and he suggested that if this was his motor then he would pull it apart and re-do sealing the cases. He showed me a page in one of his manuals and it showed were to apply the sealer and were to stay away. Thanks Brian.

So as I am not a seasoned engine builder, it sure is nice to have so  many looking over my shoulder.
Thanks everyone

Here is the progress to date
Also ready for the cam to be timed.
This shows the new flange nuts

valve train with new rocker arms, adjusters and of course a special cam for the turbo

Looks great.  Really looking forward to seeing what kind of numbers it puts down.

(I always feel like I'm so close to done when I button up a motor - and then reality sinks in.)
Take care,
David

Thanks Frank,

Need to get the Cam timed and it will be ready to get it back in the frame for the rest of the fun
The problem is that they sent to timing cards with different numbers but I don't know the first thing
about cam timing so I will leave that to Bill or Brian

I didn't get a chance to talk to Bill this weekend but I am (We are still planing)
on getting up to commerce with weekend
looking forward to seeing you and your bride.

shes loo-kin fast

I wanted to check everything to see how it fits
found out that you have to leave the exhaust flanges loose before
you put the exhaust on as well as everything else as it all has to kind of slide in to place

all in all it looks good

my favorite side

If I could ever figure out that shift linkage ...................
