New guy with some carb questions
« on: February 01, 2012, 05:20:18 PM »
Hello all
I have been lurking for a while. Trying to soak up all the info I can. I recently picked up a 72 cb500.
The bike is (well was) in good running condition. First day riding put about 20 miles on it without skipping a beat.  Second day seems to have a different out come, about 30 miles into a 50 mile ride the bike started to run very poorly.  It seems like anything over 1/4 throttle the bike just spits and sputters. I tried putting the choke on while riding to see it would but clear up, but it just makes it worse. Also pull the plugs and the # 1 cylinder plug is black and covered in soot while the other 3 all look fine. Any infor or suggestion would be great.
Thanks

Might not be a bad idea to clean the carbs out, replace plugs and other 3,000 mile tune up things. Also check the inside of the gas tank well for crud or rust that may have gotton into the carbs on that first ride.
  PS-Welcome to the Forum.     Eric

The tank is clean plugs are new and valves just adjusted. The guy I bought it from used it regularly.
