Just got off the phone with Matt: GZ is spending his first night on the road in Santa Maria. He is planning on taking 166 to Cuyama tomorrow morning, so you local guys might be able to take a short day trip, and get to carry GZ! ;D

What a day! Godzilla and I left Oakland at 8:15am, met Fatmatt and Domer in Pacifica at 9. Met Grumpy at 10:30 in Davenport, and roared South. Had lunch in Santa Cruz, Domer headed for home. Grumpy and I planned to peel off at Monterey, but the weather was so fine, traffic so light, Grumpys new motor, and my new cam were working perfectly. Before we knew it, Big Sur was waaay behind us. The only gas station for miles, we paid $6.25 a gallon for gas. Took the requisite handoff photos and sent Matt on his way.
Backtracking up the coast, Grumpy and I got our haulass on. Back in Gilroy I stopped for a cuppa joe at Grumpys house- his daughter  just found out the truth about the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Clause. All at once. Dang.
A steady slog in the fast lane of the slab back to my ghettoasis in Funkytown. 8:30pm. 12 hours, 385 miles, and my butt hurts in places I didn't know I had butt. A beautiful and exhausting day. I hope everyone else has this much fun.

P.S. Is there a separate thread, or should I post the photos here?

Left Oakland at 8:15.
In the Pacific. As soon as I snapped the pic, a wave threatened to carry him away. Then out of nowhere a German Shepherd appeared and nearly got him.

That's on the coast south of Big Sur , 100 miles from nowhere in either direction. They can charge whatever they want.

Checking in.  I have been answering PM's but apparently some are not getting out.  I WILL be doing the NM portion of the ride.  I have coordinated with Heffay and will meet up with him on 3/31 in Glenwood, NM.  I hope to go at least as far as Reserve, NM and spend the night there.  As yet, I have not received any response from angeldeville in ABQ.  If he does not come on board before I take off for the meet on 3/31, I will plan on heading all the way east on US 60 to Santa Rosa and meet up with the TX riders the evening of 4/1.  If this is necessary, I may go as far as Socorro NM on 3/31 and hole up there for the night.

Doing a test ride on the old F1 this weekend.  Just made the trip from Deming, NM to Tucson, AZ and the bike ran great!  Will hang out here with the son for a couple of days and then head back to Deming and prep for the real ride!

Got my bike sorted last night(it was the battery), but woke up with aches and sore throat. Sadly not going to make this leg of the relay, but will be looking forward to trying the Oregon/Wash. leg later on.

Just swapped texts with FatMatt. Godzilla got "tonned" on hwy166 cutting through the Los Padres National forest from Santa Maria on the way to Rosamond. Resting poolside at the Devonshire Inn in Rosamond now, and hoping that scottly's hourly weather report holds up for a visit to APE in the morning.

Enjoy the road ya lucky bastards!  ;D
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Matt and I spoke and we are meeting at APE at 9 am. Have we heard from jay or pat?  Hope that is okay. Trying to stay ahead of the storm don't know if we will though

The latest hourly weather for Rosamond shows a 30% chance of rain from 7:00 thru 11:00, increasing to 40% by noon, 60% by 1:00, and 70% by 2:00. The forecast for Victorville is mostly 20% less.

I will not be coming down tomorrow. Not sure about Pat, depends on the snow situation in the mountains.

I spoke with the track guys, Chris Huth.  Someone is using the big track tomorrow, but he said that he could ask them for 10 minutes so you guys can take a lap. Please remember not hot lapping.

If Chris is not there, he said he will alert the office staff.  ;D

Scottly, Proto and I are pming.  We should soon have a plan B in place for Proto to handoff to me, since angeldeville has disappeared.  If angeldeville reappears, we will go back to plan A.  I am posting to let you know Proto and myself have it covered.  You don't worry about anything, just enjoy your ride! ;D

Scottly, I hope you have a lot of fun with those California guys!  They sure do seem like some great guys with some really nice bikes!  Pack some good rain gear so the parade doesn't get rained on! ;D  Rain or shine, I know you guys will have a blast.

As far as rain gear, I oiled up my jacket with mink oil, and stuffed my extra clothes inside a plastic bag, before packing them into my tank bag. ;D
BTW, one of those guys is a girl! ;)

Just oiled up my boots with beeswax. When we were kids we use to put grocery bags over our socks, ducktape the top, and put on our shoes. I may just have to bring that "look" back.
