And keep in mind a camera is your friend during an undertaking such as this. You will be surprised at how handy it is for review when putting it back together.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this. Always love it when old bikes get found and while they may look crappy they're in good shape under the patina.

Mother nature isn't cooperating with me, and my crappy, drafty, non-heated garage right now. So my only update is posting this picture of the current weather so you folks in warmer climates can point and laugh.

Oh, and where it says "feels like -35", converted, that's -31 in fahrenheit...otherwise known as too cold to be working on my bike.

I'm sure glad i live in the south. Great find by the way. I'll be watching this one and i'm glad you decided to keep it close to original. I love the early SOHC's.

Something for the younger guys to think about.

When a older man is selling a bike, he WANTS some young go getter that is smart to get the bike, and is wiling to take less money because he knows he is too old or too tired to do the work. He would love to see a young guy get the bike and restore it and take care of it.

The worst thing is when a man sells a bike  that he has put money into and taken care of, and it gets all chopped up and left in parts in another location. OF course the carbs will be taken off and hidden in a box somewhere for 10+ years and be unsalvageable.

I've been spending my weekends prepping and painting an '85 GPz900. Metallic black and lime green! I can get a lot of clear-coating done today.

I'm jealous. I haven't even been able to use my cold garage and weather as an excuse to be out there working on my bike, I just haven't had time. I had a week of holidays left that I had to take prior to April 1, so I have the last week of March off, with nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs...I'm excited! I think I'll be ordering a whack of parts this week in preparation.

Ordering parts is fun! Especially when you had to do a lot of searching first.

Too bad people just let this stuff just rust away in their back yard.

Just spraying a can of WD40 would help save it.

All things considered, the bike was in okay shape seeing as it had sat outside for 27 years. The guy had it tarped for basically the entire time, and he really had nowhere else to put it, so he did the best that he could. I've seen bikes that have been supposedly stored indoors after being taken off the road that were in worse shape than this one.

The bike has a few things going for it already; electronic ignition, pipes, maybe rebuildable shocks. I've never bought a fixer-upper that had any of those things. Do you think it'll be ready for Godzilla in late summer?

In an ideal world it would be, but realistically probably not. I primarily only have time to work on the bike on weekends, and I've been out of town most of the weekends this spring, so time is always an issue...I had a week off at the end of March where I planned on getting a lot done, however, an impromptu trip out of town changed that.

Speaking of Godzilla, I didn't know it was returning again this summer. Are there any Manitoba riders on board?

You should've gotten a mass PM from westondc. Apparently the world tour has already started.

Nope, no pics.

Here is my update, or lack thereof...I got to thinking about exactly what direction I wanted to take the bike...(I'm one of the most indecisive people alive).....I started looking into some rearsets, Tarozzi in particular, and had a chat with a local fellow who is a distributor for them. I wanted to take a look at the quality of them prior to ordering, so I went down to his place and checked a set out, still up in the air as to whether or not I wanted them on the K1.

Well, when I got there, all my plans changed...quickly. See, little did I realize this individual, who lives just a couple minutes from me, is someone I would like to refer to as a cb400f guru. I sat on his very heavily modified 400f, and absolutely loved the way his bike felt. I ride a 100% stock 400f every day, and have another 400f missing a fair amount of things tucked away into my shed that I had also been trying to figure out what to do with. We got to talking, and shortly after, rearsets for my 400f were ordered instead of my K1.

I've had this urge for awhile now to build a bike for the track, and now since the local track has instituted a smaller CC class that the 400f will fit into, its really been on my mind. So, I've tucked the K1 into the corner of my garage for another day, still almost exactly as I pulled it from the backyard in February. I since dragged the other 400f out of my shed, so that is now my priority.

When the day comes, I'll revive this thread again....until then, I have a little bike to build for the track  ;D

I bought this bike 5? Or so years back. It was supposed to be a parts bike. We got it running and just kept wrenching on it. It is now my daily driver. Fastest 750 hands down I’ve ridden. I’m not sure what’s done to it, but it is ridiculously quick....and the whole engine is Allen bolts....who knows. I just finished a full service on her.

Hope you checked and recorded valve clearance  before setting them...a must with a mystery cam.
You can take a outer sparkplug out and peek at the pistons , see if it's big bore.
Has the frame been cut  for top end removal ?
Is it ok in front of engine sprocket, i.e. no patched up cases.. ?
