Sold a bike and a half yesterday so i went out and bought a new one today. 74 CB550, 21000 miles. Runs kinda. Needs carbs cleaned and oil change, air filter housing is gone but its a good start.

I absolutely LOVE the color.

I was considering just rocking the travel gear but I think I will strip it all of and see if I have all the parts to return it to stock. The plan for this one is to just get it running well and ride it. I have to many other bikes that im working on. Still have to finish my other 550 and the 175 i have is going to be a mash of a CB175 and a SL175. Brat style bike.

It does look pretty sweet. nice find. Mind if you share how much? I think its funny how you find the bike that runs with no air filter. I had the same thing with my 550F. PO even said he had no idea as he drove it like that forever

the air filter box was replaced with a single KN filter. I didn't see it until i got home out i would have talked her down a little more. She was asking much more but it was a lot rougher in person then she made it sound on the phone. I'll keep the saddle bags just invade i want to use them for a trip.

It wasnt her. She bought it from the Original owner, whos wife made him sell it because he was too old to ride anymore. Her husband rode it once and then parked it for the last few years. So the Original owner must have done it as a performance mod. I may try and just replace the K&N if i dont have all the parts in my spares box.

I didnt really check the year on the frame but I think that the 74 had a different tank on it so this one might be a 75. I picked the bike up, drove it home and then rolled it in the garage. Did not really get time to go over the bike throughly yet. Ill do a good assessment of the bike when i get home from work in a few days. See what all im going to need to return "Pauline" back to stock form.

I have air boxes for the 74 550
we could work a trade if you are not partial to the one side cover you have left and my 74 was the same color when i got it it is definately the 323 frame it may be a eurosport model they took some of the 550 bikes which had dual discs and took the second disk off and sold them here in the us for some unknown reason

I also have the boots for the carbs

I have no money right now but I am interested in the trunk too the first thing I have to do when i get my tax return is pay one of the other members for his pipes and then we could talk about the trunk

The bags im going to hang on to for trips. Keeping the sidecover and trying to find a matching one. I have to see what is up with the airbox and see what I have in my parts pile. Then maybe I can help you with your cash flow on the airbox.

Its a 75. Made 11/74
So far my needs are, new caliper. Bleeder is gone. Bolts for the top tree. Rear hoop and blinkers. Possibly an air box and boots but we will see if i can make this one work. Needs lots of cleaning and chrome polish.

Changed out the dummy light cluster and put on front blinkers. Cleaned out 2 carbs and slapped them back on. Swapped out the license plate and went for a ride. Works good so far. Its not running great at wot but it is doing ok.

Well after sending a bunch of time on my friends bike it runs like a top and pulls hard through the gears. So i finally got to change the oil on my bike, adjust the vales and points. We went for a ride and after about 7 miles through town my oil light came on at a stop light. It would go off above 2000 rpm so i rode to the nearest gas station. The oil seemed low so i added some and the light went off. So i started riding home. By the time i got home it was coming on again below 2000 rpm. Not sure if i am lossing oil pressure or if the switch is bad. Makes me sad.

Well i swapped a switch off a spare motor but that one the light never came on. So that one is junk. I ordered a new switch from honda. I also ran the bike for like 30 minutes in the garage at about 3k rpm. Ill admit i got distracted int he house and forgot it was running. But anyway I had a fan on the motor so it didnt get to hot but the oil light was coming on at 2000 rpm again so i pulled one of the tappet covers and there was plenty of oil splashing around in there so i pretty sure its the switch. The bike is a slug off the line and does not react very fast to an open throttle. I am running foam filters until i get things sorted out and then im going to put the boots back on and see how much better the bike runs with the filter setup it had before.

Bought a new oil pressure switch and that fixed the oil light problem. The bike is still slow so i pulled the plugs and they look real lean. I ordered new boots and a few other things from DSS. I also have some new tires on the way.

Got the new tires on. I had not really looked at what size was on the bike until i pulled the wheels off. The front was a 110/90x19. A little wide for the front wheel. And the rear was a 100/90x18. So they ran an undersized tire in the back and an oversized tire in the front.

Now, my clutch i think has a warped disk. At least thats my guess. No matter how i have it adjusted it always has friction when i have the bike in gear and the clutch in. So when im at a stop light it always has a little forward pull. Does that sound like a correct diagnosis?

Think I've got a NOS green left cover (no emblem) if you're interested. I'll make sure it's a lefty tonight.

FFJMoore: That is a great looking 550 you picked up. In your post you said you needed a new caliper because the bleeder is bad or gone? If that is the only problem with it NAPA auto parts has a nifty little repair kit, cheap. I used one on my bike and it worked great.

Still looking for a cover. Going to go to napa today to see if i can find a bleeder repair kit. Put on my fresh rubber carb boots. Bike is running so much better. Still dont have the clamps to hold them on but they should be in tomorrow.
