friction plate woes
« on: May 28, 2006, 01:18:17 PM »
School's out and I'm finally able to pay attention to more important matters like motorcycle maintenance...  I was preparing to soak the new friction plates yesterday in the hopeful endeavor of being able to ride at some point this Mem. Day weekend, when I noticed that one of the plates has a larger inside diameter (see picture) that the rest.  This certainly wasn't the arragement I disassembled and I'm confused;  was there a later design change after '74?  is it ok to install this set of disks?  if so, where does the oddball plate go, first, last, in between?  please help  I'm road starved!!!

My 74 parts bok shows all 7 the same BUT the F1 book shows 6 the same (same as 74) and 1 different one so it looks like you have a later set. As to wether it will work that i cant tell you all I can say is the "odd" plate is the first one in
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
