Normally I get limited responses to my posts, but here's something we all face from time to time, and I'm interested in how you all approach this situation. Here's the scenario: Your riding down the road and you come up on a group of riders. They're all on the latest Harley Davidsons, metric cruisers, or Orange County Chopper type bikes, and all dressed to the hilt in the latest trend of biker clothing. And they"re all going at a speed considerably SLOWER than you are. They may be nice folks, they may be the Hell's Angels, you just don't know. I'll add here that I AM NOT PASSING JUDGDMENT ON ANYONE. Bottom line is, you want go 65, and they're going 55. What do you do?

I go by at 65-75, after passing resume my 65 cruise and carry on my way. I fail to see any issue here? They are cruising at their pace, albiet below the limit, and you are at your pace. A polite wave as you pass would be a nice jesture.

Honestly, I would just fly by them. I would safely pass but other than, there's nothing to worry about.

I'd go by in one pass, I don't think it would be proper to get stuck in the middle of the pack.

you gotta ride right up the middle of them slap as many of thier ol ladys on the ass as possible then when you get passed the front of the pack shoot em the bird,really its the only way to get their respect. oh hope you got a fast bike too!

Drop back if I am too close, Plan my pass, and crank by them Ton Up as I wave.

Then crank the turns hard so I dont have to bend over and kiss my own arse as they pass by.

if they give me the finger, I just smile back.

Have some balls ride in a pack of one..... With balls like this it is hard to sit

yep, choose your moment and ride on by, give them a wave if you want.

How big a group? If there are a lot of them and you won't be able to pass in one go be very careful how you insinuate yourself amongst them before completing the pass.

Remember that a lot of cruiser types think it is quite normal to ride side by side, so if you find yourself in the middle of the pack you may well have to deal with someone who comes up right beside you.....not a happy place to be.

If it was a really big group, doing the procession thing, I would choose it to be coffee time and pull off the road, or try to find another route...

yeah i went through this the other day, "dream cruise" month here, stuck behind a "pack o choppers" going pretty slow and no real way around, just wanting to get to the store.

finally, the traffic opened up to the right so i switched lanes and passed. later, when i was stuck waiting to turn at a light, they go by me and one of them shouted something....no idea what, maybe "hey, that's one sweet little cafe you're putting together there." but probably not. don't know if they thought i was trying to "cruise" with their "pack" or show off, but like i said, just needed to get to the store.

whatever.

I would "ride your ride" regardless.

If they want to judge you based on your bike or your clothes, they are shallow. Just content yourself with that knowledge.
If they want to kick your ass just for riding a 30 year old "jap rice burner" they're #$%*s.
If its daylight and they aren't at a bar (or wasted), you're probably OK.
Most often, there are no more "hard core" types on the road, especially not wearing the trendiest bike gear.
And if they are real bad-ass, they probably give 2 #$%*s about you or your iron.
If they are posers on new-age choppers, they probably secretly envy your stylish bike

If you don't feel comfortable cranking the throttle and doing a multiple pass, hang at the back of the pack until a stoplight, then scoot by them that way.
If you are good to go: pass them, steal a glance and make the wave/no wave judgement.
If they are hardcore and you wave, they'll probably laugh, and try to rememeber to tell their friends about the "fag/wuss" that waved at them today. Chances are they'll forget about you as soon as they can't see your tail-light.

1974 riding a 250 honda dirt bike to my family cottage in michigan
passing a bunch of harley riders ia a large group
get to the lead rider and i give him a fist in the air which is what we used to do in hawaii where i was stationed at the time
well the guy flips me off
i'm young and stupid so i flip him off too
just then i hear all these harleys kick down into a lower gear but i have the speed advantage for right now so i give that little honda all it has
just up ahead is a dirt road with a hill up to the side so we break like hell get sideways and make the turn for the road and the hill which that little honda did like a champ
when i got to the top of the hill i looked back and three harleys were down and the others were pointing at me at the top of the hill so i flipped them off again and went down the side of the hill drove through a corn field for some time found a dirt road and took the side roads home all the way
still alive to tell the story

I love it. I just don't care about the getting their respect part. #$%*'em! Rude, fake, scummy #$%* stains that I would not piss on to put out a fire. 99.9% of them.

HEY APTECH, you dont wanna sugar coat that do you!!!...lol.... i found that as long as you go buy, and stay ahead, they usually dont mind, its when you get ahead and slow again that everyone gets miffed, mind, i have been at a set of lights, with a HD one one side and another on the other, while they have happily talked through me.... like i was invisible... just do your own thing mate, you will probably be invisible to them aswell...

This is a prime example of why you should practice shooting with your left hand.

I stopped flipping anyone off after a Chevy Nomad stayed with me in heavy traffic until I could lane split to the bottom of the off ramp. He cut me off 3 times, and when I did the deed, flames shot out of his eyes.

Before you blow past....if you're single...one thing about packs of Chopper Nouveau types is there are often one or two cute single women on L'il Chopper Nouveaux...they are often well-educated, well employed and have good disposable income levels (three things I find attractive in a woman)...and because they're riding their own bikes, while they might be dating one of the lugs on an HD there's a pretty good chance you're at least as good if not a better catch.

With all that in mind, I usually hang back a half mile and stop where they stop for a chat.

I dunno about you guys, but I find my old Honda is a much better conversation starter than just another HD or HD Wasabe Wannabe.
