my friend bought this today at a literal "fire sale" anyone know what it is? of coarse the guy said it ran before the fire.

It may have ran before the fire...it just didn't "run" fast enough by the looks of it

...looks to be a nice old antique bicycle/kit motorbike from the 40's..it's a real shame.

i was thinking it might be an engine kit added to the bicycle. on the old indian and harleys the motors were inside the frame, not on the back.

That engine looks wrong for the 40's so does the frame, grcamna2 I'd guess later maybe even by 20 years then it could be repo?

The bicycle is a Scwhin (Spelling? That, I know for sure, because I had one. I think it was in the 50s; model. I'll find a picture and info, if I can.

And then this Schwinn Crusader is said to be from the 1930's, so YOURS could be a 40's or so.

Looking at the frame under the seat the 52 looks close, that repair weld...they may have moved the bar a bit lower.

the front sprocket makes me think it's not a schwinn. i'll go over and look under the bottom bracket for a SN, think that's where the old schwinns put them. sorry to turn this into a bicycle thread on sohc4!

Notice the forward downtube. On all the Schwinn's it is curved. It just looks like someones poorly conceived project from years ago. Can you imagine the center of balance on that thing.

hang it on the wall as a piece of folk art.

It may still be a Schwinn Frame, it looks prewar, because the front downtube is straight, not curved.
. Front fork is a Schwinn locking fork if the frame is correct it will have a tang inside the frame toi hold the lower neck cup.
Front sprocket does not look like what Schwinn used,. is the Motor a Clinton 700 by chance, it may have been a kicker motor.. used in some scooters.

second look I would say not a Schwinn frame, the clue that will ID the maker is the way the rear tubes split around the seatpost, cant think of any made that way. I think it is a one-off

looks like a prewar Shelby Flyer frame to me...and the front sprocket as well. the thing on the front wheel is a Stewart Warner speedo drive..

Well thanks, but those are from an ebay listing that I found. I should have said that, when I posted. I knew the fork, at least, was Schwinn, as I had one, but didn't really know the rest, for sure.

i think he's going to leave it as is and just hang it up in the shop. he only paid $25 for it.
