As if smoking isn't bad enough..
« on: February 23, 2012, 11:21:45 AM »
I ran across this 2 cycle today.

1976 Kawasaki KH 500. Last year of this model. The bike is actually all there except for one side cover. Hasn't been run in 20 years but is basically just dirty. Even the exhaust is in great shape.

He is looking for the title and is firm on $1000.00.  ::) Told him it needs $1500 to get it back from the dead.

Still negotiating.

Interesting!
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

That would make a kewl and spendy little project.  Seeing that made me hear the memory of the 750 H2 I had as a wee lad.

Yes, covered. Could not open the tank untill he finds the key. Like I said, it's all orginal. No hacking, modifing etc.

Looks like a long and expensive project. I still have a shot as he is working on the title issue but like I said, $1000 is way high to me.

It is possible the crank seals are not sealing if it has been sitting for a while.  There is a Kawi triple forum and sources to rebuild the crank.  Good greif , know that I think about it,  I last rode one in 1993.   I was glad to get back on my CBR600.  It wheelied more than the Honda.  Good Fun!!  All the triples were fun and smokey!
Good luck and I hope the seller finds the title.

Any key that fits the hole unlocks the tanks on those bikes.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

It's the unknown that is scary but then again, any bike not running and sitting 20+ years tends to make you go hmmmm.

I offered cash money if he finds the title. I doubt he will budge off his $1000 mark.

That Seller is kind of nervy asking $1000 considering All that Gravel, hay,Etc. That's Burying The Cycle...tt,He must see you as "a Very Interested Buyer"; it's collectable No Doubt...but you may have to do a Ton Of Labor & Shell out a Bunch of $.I don't think He has much respect for the bike...You May have to see if you can give him an Education on Repair  ::)...sometimes that works.. I would consider Passing on it.

You are spot on. He told me "maybe I can find someone not as smart as you".

He knows what it is going to take. He has seen my bikes. Trying to get the most out of it. I offered $800 cash money. Would not move.

That's my top offer and YES, it is way to high for the work to be done. I would have to reconsider that offer as a matter of fact.

tt,  you say he knows what it's going to take...and he Still won't budge? Nervy guy  ???
I've "liberated" a few in my past from guy's like him...;I think they noticed the "look" I had when I was appreciating what I saw and having my eye toward "doing it right"...and then wanted to turn that into $.It's sad how folks use the interest of others that way.I hope he has to sit on it for a while until he comes to his senses...and maybe try's to get it on the road HIMSELF.... ::) $$$  :)

Hey TT. How's about letting me have a look at it? I'm in Arizona as well, and I just might be stupid enough to give him the thousand.

Not!

I'm letting him stew for a couple of days. If the title is lost he is in for a big suprise in obtaining another.

I want it but not at his price. ;)

I'm no expert but any of the kwaker 2 stroke triples are getting big money so I bet there's at least a grand worth of parts there. Especially if there's no holes in the pipes and the rest of the parts need only cleaning up. If it's mostly just dusty, I can see a grand there (based on current collector prices). No way in heck I would pay that much though ;D

Well, that's the problem. If we can negotiate a better price I would need to wash it up a little for a closer inspection.

Leaning against a wall with flat tires it was hard to see a lot of things. It appears to be "mostly dirt" and the low Arizona humidity has helped. Gas tank could be rotted underneath, lower pipes rusted on the bottom etc.

I have been doing some reading. It seems that if this bike has been sitting, which it has for 22 years, the crankshaft seals will have to be replaced. ( Steve k )

This is around $1200 and up to do. Might be cheaper but an estimate.

Not good. Not worth it. Will see what he does.

I had a few S1's, the crank rebuilds were extortionate. This was in late 70's early 80's.
Not all the same bike but various junk I picked up.

I had an H1 crank rebuilt about 2 years ago. It cost me around $300 - I did all the labor on the complete engine strip & rebuild. But that was a completely stock and original '69 in very nice shape cosmetically. Those and the '70 are the ones in big demand. The '76 was a smogged down, lower performance model and is much less valuable, even though it's a more rideable bike.

Yes, this is what my research said however the chassis was much improved making them somewhat more agile.

If you pass tell him to ebay it and watch it go for more than 1000.. just cuz you dont want to pay that, dont mean it isnt worth it.
If you dont buy let Stu at it.. IK think its reasonable..
Add up what the tank, sidecover, pipes, seat tach speedo would go for, bet its more than a G-note..
