dyna S ignition bracket mod -elongating holes
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:54:08 AM »
I'm installing a Dyna S in my CB 750K4 and can't rotate the bracket enough to get the spark at full advance. I've been on the phone for about 30 minutes waiting for Dyna support so I decided to ask here. I apologize if this has been discussed before but I did a quick search and found nothing.

I can't get the spark at full advance as per the Dyna instructions so I was thinking about elongating the holes to get the spark where it needs to be. Anybody else do this or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks
Jud

Ok before you elongate the holes, make sure you are twisting the advance fully while setting the timing. I read the instructions a zillon times and had the same issue, then realized what the instructions actually meant. It's a bit tricky to twist and hold the advancer at the same time as setting the timing, but once I figured this out, I had lots of room on the slots.

Yep, I got her timed by doing exactly what you said. I knew that I was doing something wrong, plus I can't read and understand anything.

Thanks for your reply, now I have other problems cylinder 1 and 2 are not firing, plenty of spark but no explosion.

Not sure on the 750 ( I assume that's the bike) but some of the carb sets have a fuel line to carbs 1 & 2 and another to 3 & 4; my 550 for example.

The issue you are describing could be a fuel line issue to 1 & 2.

Also on the timing... you set to the advance mark, no?

Also you can adjust the pickups independent of the backing plate.
I used a multimeter to static time it then a strobe light to tweak in the 1-4 and 2-3 pickups.
Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

I took the float bowls off and they are getting fuel so I sprayed some WD-40 in the carbs when she was running and she burnt it so I've got carb issues.

I need to go get some carb cleaner and play with the carbs again. I hope I don't have to take the rack out again.
