Can I clean my UNI air filter with the K&N clean/oil kit?
« on: March 16, 2012, 03:36:19 pm »
I didnt look at the package and wasnt thinking, i realize now there may be some big differences between the way the UNI filters are made and the K&N ones... or maybe not

So what do you think? I would have bought a UNI kit but they didnt have it at the cycle shop... do I need to return this?

,thanks for the help!

If it's the same basic design as a K&N I would say yes.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Be VERY careful an read the instructions for both the Uni filters and the cleaner kit. Not all filters are created equal and the cleaning kit for one style filter will actually destroy another.

Typically, gauze type filters, like the K&N, will all use a similar cleaner/oil and work just fine. The same goes for foam filters. BUT, don't use foam oil and cleaners on gauze filters and vise versa.

TT I think has good Uni foam experience. The only ones I have seen sadly in 750's are usually quite degraded, disinigrated and no longer functioning. Have pics if you have the stomach.  :)

It really doesn't matter if the cleaner will work. Both K&N and UNI (I have both on bikes now) have to be oiled to work correctly. The filter element on the filters is very different and the oil you use on them is not the same. They are different things.

And if you are going to run and unoiled UNI, save yourself some time and trouble and just wrap a towel around the intake on your carbs.
