I started mocking up the fender and caliper arm brackets for my dual disc conversion. For those that have done this mod,  is this how your fender fits? One side of the fender between the fork and caliper bracket?

It took me nearly five hours to clean the powdercoat from the threads to install my tappet covers!

The brite silver of the cases looks great. Those threads for the tappet covers would be tough to mask. How did you remove the  powdercoating from that area?

I used a big 16mm tap, a scribe, wire brush, and a box knife. Luckily I have a bunch of old tappet covers because I had to sacrifice a few. I messed up a few threads.

Coming along nicely B. Should have used those extra tappet covers to protect the threads during powdercoat. :o  I have a set I use exclusively for coating valve covers.

When we riding?

Last time I did that and I ruined my cam cover because blasting media worked its way into the threads and and I couldn't remove the caps. The tappet covers actually broke!

Yes, I just loosely screw them in to protect the threads, have not had a problem yet.  Guess I am lucky...

The point is bits of bead get into the coarse threads. The caps thread in OK but when you try to back them out they jam up bad. It blows the threads out Tige. You have to take a toothbrush etc with brake cleaner to get the crap out. I have problems screwing the caps in, blasting , cleaning but enough $hit was there to F up the cover threads. Be careful and clean the hell out of those threads. I have 2 perfect covers that are f'd up that I use for painting now......lesson(s) learned.

I see where I am off...  I usually blast with aluminum oxide, it is toxic, but cleans out of all the threads easily with air, then acetone and a toothbrush.   I screw the tappet covers in loosely for powdercoating.

Received my MLS top end gasket kit from Cycle X today and wasted no time getting the top end set in place. Thanks to all my efforts with TAO it only took me about 15 minutes to get everything set in place. I am waiting for some HD nuts from Voxonda and I will torque er down.

What about using plumber's tape on the caps?  They would seal well and are easy to remove.

Well it looks like I need a new front hub. Apparently I have the ultra rare K0 hub. It was made 4mm wider so the flange the speedo drive sits on is not as tall.
Oh well.

On a positive note at least I got something done today. Rear wheel laced and fitted to the swingarm.

This 3.5" wide rim looks great.

Where'd you get another box section swingarm?
Take care,
